Forum Post: Proposal for escalation with rolling encampments

A valuable dimension of the voice of the Occupation is our persistence. This involves sleeping, though, which has recently been denied to so many of the Occupations by our so-called leaders and their enforcers, including in New York. I think that we need to escalate. I would like to see an agile rolling encampment in defiance of the ban on sleeping. In this tactic, a small group would take a shift in Zuccotti Park, with the support of the rest of the Occupation. After encamping, each group would expect to be arrested, to be immediately followed by the next shift. This would continue until everyone willing to participate was incarcerated or until we have embraced a just community.

I pledge to participate in one or more of these shifts at the Wall Street Occupation if it achieves consensus on rolling encampments with jail solidarity.

I like your suggestion. I'm trying to "participate" from a distance but I'm awaiting some such organized approach before taking the plunge to "show up" on site and, as I have also been calling and hoping for, take my turn at being arrested-- which is I believe a necessary part of Civil Disobedience.

I hope there is an awareness and hope there will be continued discussion as well as outrage and police response. I don't understand the legal authority police have for pepper-spraying etc. Why aren't they obligated to arrest people? Of course this underlines the idea that OWS protestors should submit WILLINGLY to arrest.

lots of hope... lots of problems... but yes, please keep fighting in the awareness that if you are camped out or arrested, you Are representing many of us who are watching with all this hope. so thanks again for your courage and nevermind the details of the inconsistencies and never-perfect behavior on all sides.

It looks like the Occupation is finding alternative places to Occupy, but I would still like to see it stand strong instead of being chased around.
