You folks desperately need a code of conduct. Name calling, labeling, demeaning people who don't fully agree with you should not be part of your movement.
Just saying, something you all might want to consider. The point speaks for itself and doesn't need elaboration.
A leader is NOT required.
Leaders are how we got into this.
Leaders will not get us out.
Feet on the street
I dont not believe a leader per say is needed, simply a representative who has some talent of language and culture to bring about an ORGANIZED list of demands Who can express the thoughts and feelings of those he represents.
Simply put, someone who can take the voice of the mob and share it with the world. This arab spring approach works for a different culture, this is N. America. Our culture is ruled by the baby boomers and the retired. They expect a form of leadership, even if this speaker is reciting from a script, its all image in our country. Why we have a president who is basically a joker drawing everyone’s attention while the real government officials make the decisions and run the country from the shadows.
My point exactly - saying our culture is ruled by baby boomers and the retired would be outside any code of conduct I could come up with for the Occupy movement. Can't say how much labeling of people I see used in these forums and if the Occupy movement continues to allow labeling of people in such a way to go unchecked, you will continue to diminish efforts to add credibility to your message.
I apologies, I agree there are no such things as NORMS dictating a label. However I needed to form a point that a organized rep is a good idea.
No worries friend. Be careful to take the high road in your speech and deeds. Occupy will be the better for it.
A leader just gives the mob someone to hold accountable so maybe a representative is a better idea.
Why not go in the chat and hold an election. Facebook is a good indicator of an individuals ideology. Hold a mock election for a small leadership board that could begin to organize this hoard. When it becomes organized this movement can actually make a difference. At the moment I know nothing about OWS since you can't get a good idea what its about.
Sounds like many people feel the Occupy movement should be anything but organized. From chaos will come a grand new order. Makes no sense to me.
I agree, take a small example. Who succeeds more in life the guy who plans, prepares, studies, and with an entrepreneurial mindset sets out to earn a his wage either through working for someone else or for themselves. Or someone doing the opposite (not going to generalize since it seems many of the protesters you see in the streets are of a clearly defined demographic.) Getting things done takes more than beating drums and hanging out in the streets.. . I think.
Not everyone is on Facebook, so that wouldn't be a very democratic way of proceeding.
You are right about that. What about using this site itself as the method? Those participating in this forums seem to be somewhat more organized than that frenzy going on in the chat.
So many people have a need to belong and follow a leader. Sigh.

I don't think most of us do much name calling, labeling, or demeaning of people. At least I don't.
Then, you surely aren't reading the same posts I have been
Maybe not. But just because some people on the internets say something don't mistake it for the movement. Some of those on these forums are here just to disrupt.
A code of conduct would be a positive thing to consider for what you're doing. I'd suggest think it over.
A code of conduct seems pretty authoritarian. People should treat others the way they want to be treated, but that doesn't need to be in writing I think. We're not writing the 10 commandments here.
