So, I've been here about a week now, and after reading around both here and the rest of the word wide webz I've noticed that when people talk about OWS, they tend to fall into one of three general trains of thought regarding a solution to move things forward. These characteristics are the results of my personal observations. While I understand you may or may not agree with 100% of any of the three, I ask you to please pick the answer that closest matches your beliefs as to what the general course of action for this country is. The next step after this poll will be to drill down deeper into each group, and poll on more specific opinions.

About the options:

First: The "Leave it Alone" group. They may think that the OWS protesters are overreacting to current events, are radical leftists, or a minimum of change is needed (ie, our current election process, without any sort of reform, will replace ineffective leaders with effective ones).

Second: The "Fix It" group. Those who feel that that our current underlying government, A Capitalist Democracy, should remain in place, albeit with some changes. As an example, certain industries (namely banking)would see increased regulation and political scrutiny/accountability. They also seem to trend toward wanting increased transparency in government, as well as reform to the current lobbyist system so as to divorce politics from business as much as possible. They may or many not also believe that our system will never be perfect, but that a capitalist democracy is still the most effective way to organize a country of this size.

Third: The "Replace It" group. These people tend to believe that our current system is in an overall failure state, and will need to be completely replaced with a new form of government and/or economic system. There are a wide range of opinions regarding what system to replace it with, and in the interests of not siloing these respondents into agreeing with one particular system, I won't list them here. The key unifying factor at the moment seems to be that whatever this new system is, it will have little resemblance to our current Capitalist Democratic society.

Fix it, the system works, it just needs to be fixed and by fixing, I mean we need to stop, or at least severely curb the flow on money into Washington.

Need more votes guys!

Okay, I'll bite. Lets go with the middle of the road and say fix it. I have absolutely no problem with the constitution of the United States, and, as a matter of fact, am sworn to protect and defend it. There are, however, a plethora of things that need immediate change in order to form, or in this case maintain, a more perfect union. You didn't ask for specific ideas so I'll just leave it at that.

3 is my vote

You can't fix something that refuses to be fixed!

I vote for a real Liberal Democratic Party; willing to part ways with three decades of middle class stagnation, willing to do away with Reagan deregulation apologists and willing to tell Ayn Rand sociopathic, "There can be only one!" types to seek medical help.

[-] 1 points by MattE (74) 13 years ago

ooook.

So...replace it?

[-] 1 points by MJMorrow (419) 13 years ago

No, Why would we need a new economic system or new form of Government? We didn't need a Revolution to destroy three decades of potential, for the middle class, so, we don't need the French Revolution to fix things. We need real, pro- middle class, Liberal Democrats.

didn't understand your response. My Fault. Sorry.

So, fix it it is then.

[-] 1 points by MJMorrow (419) 13 years ago

Yep! Sorry for the confusion, all my fault. It is late and I am sleepy! [giggle]

[-] 1 points by MattE (74) 13 years ago

eh. I've had sleepy people do worse. Also, you didn't call me a Nazi or some contorted form of Judaic, so, your still ahead of the curve for the OWS forum at this point

:)

Fix it

I voted fix it in multitude (was already registered).

We should try to fix it first IMO. We have a constitution, use it or lose it.
