Investigative journalist Steven Brill arrived in Denver Wednesday morning with a succinct message: It’s time to take the free market out of the health care market, at least for hospitals.
And he proposed non-free-market solutions, including instituting price controls at hospitals, forcing all private facilities in the state to charge all patients the same price, and to control the price of what are considered to be monopoly drugs.
“I think ultimately you have to start with transparency,” Brill said. “But from transparency, you have to see that this experiment in being the only developed country in the world with free-market health care hasn’t worked.”
