Forum Post: Police shutting down OSLC

Occupy SLC has attempted to work with the police. We hoped doing so would give people a feeling of security if they joined us and we wanted to believe the police are also the 99%. We sought permits in good faith. Now they are being revoked. We sought to handle disturbances in-camp and have done well. Now the police are drawing nightsticks on cooperative people and alluding to security issues of which there is little or no evidence. I was homeless and for two weeks I have slept in a tent Occupy gave me. I have been respected and have felt no danger. I have seen my friends among the homeless park residents be welcomed, invited to participate and their participation acknowledged and appreciated.

FIGHT WITH OSLC! Join our sit-in on the evening of Saturday, October 22nd.

If they shut you down you have to go right back. If they arrest you, go back again when they release you.

Agree with TR.... It's how any movement keeps alive. I know being arrested can put a damper on it.. but it's a learning experience as well... Want to know who has been arrested the MOST in this country for Protesting?.. Martin Sheen,, 60 times! Good Luck! Break a leg.. and come out Fighting!

There is some good news! We still Occupy Salt Lake City. And in the same park. I'm not inclined to make judgments on the events leading up to moment we learned our permit would not be renewed. There was, unfortunately, foot-in-mouth on both sides. But the situation was resolved. We continue to occupy and we have begun setting up our long-term arrangements.

Thanks to everyone who demonstrated very vocal support. The influx of commentary to media helped us correct the issue and the support of posters on Occupy forums motivated many of us to stick to our principles.

Keep it up. I'd suggest a sign that says, "We are all Libyans."

You expected civility and honor from those people?

Non-violence will invariably be met with violence. It is the very nature of violence.

link us, whats OSLC? how is the legal battle going over your occupy site? we are facing similar issues and the worst thing about no wiki is we will have a hard time supporting each other due to the mass confusion and disorder.

From my perspective, the worst part of the legal battle over here is that we haven't agreed to start one. Our GA voted to explore the option of suing the police and the permitting agencies involved. But those heading that action have moved fast, so hopefully, there'll be solid information to discuss at tonight's GA.

A wiki between all the occupied sites, you mean?

yes. you need to look into getting an injunction against the police. You need to seriously take a look at the legal writing and details on the wall. in SB the game is they lie lie lie lie lie and we have now caught them at it. They are calling an easement a park in order to regulate it as such. They put up signs and took them down- proving both times they knew they were lying through their teeth.

Go get educated, go learn the codes and the laws that apply, and start peeling back the veil. You will soon find that in fact the police are distorting the laws and lying to you and everyone about it and that knowing the truth arms you legally and gives you the pwer to force branches of government to intervene on your behalf. the legal battle is crucial.

The police are only in NY at the mayor's behest. And provoking them in any way would only invite another Waco.

I have a question-

Why is it that you are demanding that laws be put in place to protect the innocent public from the evil 1%, while at the same time encouraging others to purposefully defy the laws that are already in place regarding public behavior? Why should people view you as acting in the best interest of the 99% when you constantly prod and poke at the police officers whose JOB it is to protect all 100%?

As long as you defy the laws and city ordinances put in place by representatives put in place BY the public and voted upon by the public as being in their best interest- you are demonstrating that you are NOT "on their side" nor do you represent those who believe in obeying laws until they change the laws.
