Are you a member of the 99%? I regard myself as such. Do you support Occupy Wall Street and other spin off movements around the world? Are you perhaps a Tea Party person who is beginning to feel uncomfortable with the goals and direction of this movement? Or maybe you are just an Old Fashioned Republican like me who is very concerned, possibly even depressed by the leadership of our party and the direction in which it is going. If you answered yes to any of these, perhaps I can give you something to think about.
A blue collar working man that I met a few weeks ago came up with a new pledge for our elected officials who have taken the Taxpayer Protection Pledge; “I pledge my allegiance to Grover Norquist and to the wealthy with which he stands, one class, filled with GREED, intolerable, with selfishness and neo-feudalism for all the rest of us”. Should they feel angry or insulted? What they should feel is ashamed. Charles Harvey Read MORE at: www.anoldfashionedrepublican.com

Thanks for this. Good post and very good article. Liberals and conservatives alike should read it. We need to focus on our common neo-feudal antagonists, then can eventually go back to being opposed on minor issues re: the particular size or disposition of this or that program, instead of having to constantly defend the basic moral mandate of government to benefit its citizens.

You're in a trance like all liberals.

Unions can bankroll a 3rd party read more http://overthecoals.blogspot.com/

Instead of union leaders pissing away the members' money by giving it to the Democrats who have stabbed the unions in the back when Clinton created NAFTA the minute he got inaugurated the members money can finance a 3rd party that would end globalization. Unions need to bargain for their members by completely excluding all nonunion employees from any benefits when they negotiate contracts.

The OWS protests could influence this process if OWS would nominate candidates for the unions to finance. The OWS strategy that refuses to nominate any candidates is self destructive for the protest.

I'm like you - my conservative roots run deep. It is a mistake for people to think these protest are only a "liberal" thing. For decades now both the right and the left have been bought and paid for by corporations and special interests (including unions). The current system of legalized bribery (campaign donations) and paid lobbyist have turned our "representatives" into the lap dogs of the corporations and special interests. What we need is real, loop-hole free CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM if we want to break the cycle. It needs to be THE main goal of these protest!!! Other meaningful reforms will follow, but only if we get the money out now! The crony-capitalism/neo-feudalism we have right now will continue until we stop the corporations from using their money to "speak" as if they are representing millions of Americans.
