If you forgive all student debt, you will teach an entire generation of individuals that they are not responsible for their actions.

[-] 1 points by Levantine (5) 13 years ago
  1. STUDENT LOAN AMNESTY.

A total cancellation of all outstanding student loan debt, meaning a total and immediate forgiveness of all payments of principal and interest coming from this category of borrowing. Carter granted Vietnam draft resisters an amnesty. If Obama wants to keep his job, he must deliver a student loan amnesty to save not just a single generation, but the entire future of the United States and beyond. Otherwise, dump Obama in 2012! The zombie bankers have been pampered enough. It is time for them to take a bath, so that a generation might live. This is also the best stimulus program possible.

  1. STOP FORECLOSURES. Since students alone will never be enough to make a revolution, it is necessary to put forward additional measures to defend other parts of the population from the depredations of Wall Street. In the area of home foreclosures, the bankers have trampled on the law. The answer is to make foreclosure a federal crime, so that anyone who throws an American family out on the street will end up in Leavenworth. Again, the zombie bankers can eat the losses, which are unavoidable in any case. This is not an impossible demand: under the New Deal, the Frazier-Lemke Act stopped all foreclosures on homes, provided only that the owners could get a minimal payment plan approved by any judge in any court. With the help of popular pressure and public opinion, foreclosures virtually came to a halt. This is what we need to be demanding today.

  2. DEFEND AND FULLY FUND THE SOCIAL SAFETY NET. Wall Street and Washington elites agree that the American people ought to be subjected to genocidal austerity. So we need to extend jobless benefits to all unemployed, including those who have been out of a job for 99 weeks and more. 46 million Americans are now surviving thanks to Food Stamps, but the reactionary Republicans are demanding savage cuts, and Obama is more than likely to cave. We also need to defend programs that specifically help children and young.

  3. PAY FOR HEALTHCARE AND SOCIAL SERVICES WITH A 1% WALL STREET SALES TAX.How to pay? The answer is simple: the Tobin tax or Wall Street sales tax. Today the total financial turnover of the banksters in terms of buying, selling, and other trading comes to well over three quadrillion dollars yearly – that’s more than 3,000 trillion dollars and they pay virtually no taxes. . Tax them with 1%.

  4. CONDEMN AND DENOUNCE OBAMA'S WANTON AGGRESSION AGAINST LIBYA & call for an immediate pullout of US troops from Afghanistan and Iraq. Anyone who refuses to do this should be regarded with grave suspicion!!

Thank you for your ideas!

We do address most of your concerns in our draft proposal which is just a sample for the National General Assembly. You should definitely run to be a delegate to the National General Assembly and come to Philadelphian on 7-4-12.

Suggested Revision of #5:

A flat tax of 20-25% for anyone whose income is greater than 20K annually would be a simple, fair way to tax the populace. No loopholes, no tax breaks, no exemptions. Everyone contributes the same proportion of their income to the nation. I am all for paying my taxes to support the nation and people in this nation who need a helping hand, and I want those who make more than I do to pay their fair share. I think a flat tax would appeal to conservatives as well as liberals and could be a pragmatic answer to revising the tax codes. Please discuss, consult with economists (which I am not!) to see if this is viable, plausible.

[-] 1 points by publicus1 (125) 13 years ago

Sorry we cannot make these changes. A regressive 20% tax and eliminating all deductions and exemptions including things like the mortgage interest deduction and property tax deduction would obliterate what is left of the middle class. This is why we need a National General Assembly to debate and vote on a platform and list of grievances.

[-] 1 points by khewitt333 (35) from Brooklyn, NY 13 years ago

Your proposed #5 also eliminates all deductions. A progressive tax w/o any deductions or exemptions or loopholes would be lovely, but it will encounter extreme resistance. It is time to think of a completely new system in which Americans don't need to drive themselves into debt with mortgages and owning property. I don't know what that new system will be, but one that encourages the same dependence on banks and credit will sustain the same power structures we now have.

Please review this site as they have the only plan that will work(IMO). It involves every individual doing the oversight of our government (thru the V2 - http://www.osixs.org/V2_Menu_V2.aspx ) and a plan on how to get there. Good luck to all and keep up the good work! http://www.osixs.org/Rev2_menu_intro.aspx http://www.osixs.org/Rev2_menu_commonsense.aspx http://www.osixs.org/V2_Menu_V2.aspx

Sorry found the document to have too many problems

[-] 1 points by publicus1 (125) 13 years ago

It is only a proposal. The action plan calls for the election of delegates to debate and vote upon a list of demands for change. This is only a sample.

This proposal does not dictate how the 'The People's Act' and 'Amendment XXVIII' should read but rather suggests how the demands and the concerns of protesters can be written and passed into law.

“We The People” initiative

  • Initiative to form a consensus of our collective interests that distils the aims and specific demands of 'Occupy Wall Street' protests into two pieces of legislation designed for submission to the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate for two separate up-or-down votes.

'The People's Act' – Legislative Item #1

  • a piece of legislation comprised of comprehensive social-economic reforms of the political process, with an emphasis on the role and function of money in our political system and process (elections).

'Amendment XXVIII' – Legislative Item #2

  • a piece of legislation that addresses and redresses social justice issues, with an emphasis on equality, equity and rights.

October 15th - December 31st (Launch “We The People” Reform initiative)

  • a critical mass of protest synergies agrees on terms to launch the drafting of legislation as outlined below; open call for and selection of persons to form a 50 member (one per state as determined by state and local protesters) drafting committee.

January 1st New Year's Day (Drafting committees formed and finalised)

  • open collaborative participation in support of drafting legislation that resembles wikipedia style submissions and editing. 'We The People.org,- .com. - .edu etc site serves as host of master documents for drafts of the 'Act' and the 'Amendment', edits, submissions to draft 'Act' and 'Amendment' must be approved by a simple majority of the perspective members on the 50 member drafting committee.

I like your ideas. Especially a consensus of our collective interests.

[-] 1 points by publicus1 (125) 13 years ago

All we are proposing is a means to elect a National General Assembly from all over the country to debate this and vote on an official list of grievances. For us to more forward, we need to elect representatives to take the time to debate and enact a platform for change.

[-] 1 points by OWSNewPartyTakeNY2012 (195) 13 years ago

Also we Really need to abolish tiered pricing of the mobile internet, Because in the future most internet devices will be mobile. If we don't protect our current universal fairness to upload H.D. video and other high bandwidth content the internet will be come a pay to play system like cable and all that freedom of speech and expression that we find on the net we will suddenly be out of our price range.

[-] 1 points by OWSNewPartyTakeNY2012 (195) 13 years ago

Voter Reform!!!! 1st. Voting time should be expanded from 1 day to 1 week nationally. 2nd. There should be a federal voting holiday. 3rd. Class action laws suits should be able to be waged against politicians who engage in voter fraud and voter suppression as well as having extended mandatory prison terms for these offenses. 4th completely change the way redistricting is done. 5th Make elections unstealable by giving voters a recite that can be traced to their ballot but not to their identity (its like a raffle ticket). More info on that here http://www.ted.com/talks/david_bismark_e_voting_without_fraud.html Also get rid of the line item veto, the executive branch is overpowered as it is.

[-] 2 points by publicus1 (125) 13 years ago

These are all good ideas. Can you come to the GA on 10-15-11?

really, another party? if this goes the way of the tea party i will not support this movement. i am part of the 99% and we are all represented by the constitution. this will lead to people ending protest and the entire thing will devolve into another pointless party.

tea party coffee party Christian Liberty Party United States Marijuana Party Green Party

and the list really does go on.

[-] 2 points by seaglass (671) from Brigantine, NJ 13 years ago

I agree. We need another useless party like a bull needs tits. If that's how the PTB intend to kill this movement I want out now. Once the f*cking lawyers get control of this were cooked.

[-] 1 points by publicus1 (125) 13 years ago

It is not another political party, Please read the entire proposal and action plan. This is just a means to organize and impact the 2012 election.

if you give them a handle someone will try to steer. it sounds messy but staying as a generic protest until something is done will be the only effective measure. the routine you are taking has been done 200 times over and always ends up the same.

"One of the most important sources of 60's radicalism was disillusionment with liberalism. As groups formed, split along ideological lines, and re-formed, they drove divisions into the fabric of American society. That society could no longer agree on reforms needed, and their pace. It had been moved from a time of consensus into accommodation, and finally to bitter division."

http://www.wakemag.org/voices/does-the-world-need-new-political-parties/

if the protest organizes it will lean one way or the other, it cannot be stopped because there is always an imbalance of view. as long as it is disorganized, the media will report what is most commonly stated, this will be the only position the protest needs. those who would co-opt the protest cannot do so without leadership in the protest.

[-] 1 points by publicus1 (125) 13 years ago

We disagree and believe that a democratically elected National General Assembly representing all 435 districts, supported by the 99%, that can meet and debate for four months will be able to come up with a list of grievances to impact the 2012 election.

https://sites.google.com/site/the99percentdeclaration/

[-] 1 points by seaglass (671) from Brigantine, NJ 13 years ago

I agree, this is now beyond parties. We need our own Gov't at this pt. because the one in DC and most State Capitals are already illegitimate. They 're all the property of Wall st. and its paid for shills. We need a clean slate of people who are NOT owned by the Fortune 500.

[-] 1 points by RichardGates (1529) 13 years ago

then remember me and what i am telling you "you have already lost" i know i cannot convince you, wish i could. you will have to see for yourself.

Hello,

My name is Betsy Schwartz and I have been waiting for this movement my whole life, and feel compelled to join. I am 50 years old. I am concerned that already decisions have been made about voting for representatives.

This movement reminds me of the childbirth movement I was also compelled to join twenty years ago. A very powerful document was created by consensus, ratified and voted on. I was the ratifying vote. Find the Mother Friendly Childbirth Initiative at www.motherfriendly.org. It went viral, and has been translated into over six languages (I lost count). It was intended for America but other countries were begging for it, thus an International version was created.

The Congress that assembled to create the final document was open to all who wanted to come and work hard for three days in the Mountains of Santa Cruz. We did not have a name. We left our differences at the door and gathered together with a common desire: to change birth for mothers, babies, and families. There were some experts and pioneers in the childbirth field there. I was new to the field, but I did make a couple of significant contributions. We left with a document that needed editing and a name, The Coalition for Improving Maternity Services. A coalition is more inviting.

If you start out utilizing the same political structure of voting for representatives, and majority rules, what you come away with will not be representative of the people. What is our common desire? It seems that it would be to remove corporations as the most powerful influence on our Congress, and return the Congress to the people. There is much wrong in our country. I know the status quo will not give up without a fight.

It is my hope that a common desire will emerge and this Assembly in Philadelphia will be open to all who have that desire. We must all remember too that true change begins from within. It is human desires that brought us to this point. We are the only species who does not follow the laws of nature, beginning with feeding our babies another species’ milk.

In Peace and Solidarity,

Betsy

How do you propose we represent the views of 99% of 300 million people without representation? Even using the internet, millions of people do not have access to the internet. We are calling for a return to Republican Democracy under the constitution not a direct democracy which would not work in a country of 300 million given today technology. Maybe someday.

[-] 1 points by seaglass (671) from Brigantine, NJ 13 years ago

The whole direct democracy idea is nonsense. I wish the movement here would try and understand that. What we need is more democracy at all levels of society today, not the top down feudalistic system we now have. But direct forms are not possible in a country of 300 mil.

[-] 1 points by occupie (75) 13 years ago

You lost count at 6 languages? Jesus you people are dumber than I thought.

[-] 1 points by betsydoula (143) from Beverly Hills, FL 13 years ago

What I meant was I have not been active and do not know how many languages it has been translated into. I don't appreciate being called dumb. Why are you here if you do not support this movement?? Don't you have anything better to do with your life?

[-] 1 points by betsydoula (143) from Beverly Hills, FL 13 years ago

Okay. Just wanted to give you my thoughts. Take it or leave it. When I feel compelled there is no stopping me. I will continue to stay active on line and join any local assemblies. Never underestimate a group of dedicated passionate people.

[-] 0 points by occupie (75) 13 years ago

The dumbest thing on earth is a group of people. Congratulations.

[-] 1 points by OWSNewPartyTakeNY2012 (195) 13 years ago

actually this post is one of the dumbest concepts in history. What could you assert to be true that you haven't learned from other people? i.e. your society, your friends and family, the ongoing evolution of science, philosophy and invention. All of these things inform each other, we are actually dependent on the group to expand our horizons. No one person Knows as much as everyone.

[-] 1 points by publicus1 (125) 13 years ago

You obviously believe in dictatorship not democracy, congratulations!

[-] 1 points by occupie (75) 13 years ago

Thanks for assuming what I believe.

[-] 1 points by amanoftheland (452) from Boston, MA 13 years ago

I guess you have not noticed the one thing that is common to most all of the posts I make. So I will say it you you here. Nothing at all can be accomplished until the problem at hand is rectified. That problem being that a private for profit entity has the power to create the money supply and not only regulate that money supply, but cause it to fluctuate at will. NO OTHER plan of action need be attempted until such a time when the power to create and regulate the value of money ts taken away from the private entities that have it presently. Furthermore to show you that I am not a complete neanderthal, I have come to realize something. I Figure that every American need ONLY work probably 3 months out of each year in order to provide for the basic needs of society. Knowing this I still understand that no new system of civilization will ever be implemented until the power to create money and regulate its value is returned to We the People of the united States of America. Because at this point in time, even if the American People wanted to forsake money for another form of civilization the choice to dispose of Money is not theirs as they have so foolishly allowed their power to create money be given away by bought and paid for politicians. One can not destroy what belongs to another. I hope you catch what I am saying, and just in case you don't I'll make it plain and simple.. We the people must cease bickering about ones personal ideals, wants, values, and whatever else and unite in the one common goal needed before anyone of us has any hope of advancing what they think is a proper course of action for the future of America and the world. That common goal being to return the power of creating and regulating the value of money to the people where it belongs, then if the people want to forsake money they will have the power to dispose of money as the power to create and therefore destroy money would be theirs and theirs alone. GOD HELP US ALL!
