OWS 99er are invited to the second GA of Occupy Harlem on Wednesday, November 9th from 6 to 9 PM at St. Philip's Church, 204 West 134th Street (just off Adam Clayton Powell Blvd/2 or 3 subway to 135th/Lenox Ave.)
Occupy Harlem first GA was launched on October 28th at St. Philip's by a 150 folks, almost all from Harlem. The mixed audience of workers, students (from Columbia and CCNY), youth, veteran radical activists, and local community groups spoke out on local, national and international issues that included crisis of massive Black unemployment, gentrification, Columbia University expansion and its impact on Harlem, privatization of public housing and public schools, homelessness, mass incarceration, stop-and-frisk, green space, food sustainability, the betrayal of elected officials, politicians controlling not-for-profit groups, immigrant rights, wars for profits, public works program to build infrastructure, US occupation of Haiti. Over a dozen proposed working groups emerged out of this discussion. We will solidify the formation of the working groups on Nov. 9th.
Again we invite all to join us at our second GA!
FYI Occupy Harlem publicly launched on October 28th has no relationship with Occupy the Boiler Room of 477 West 142nd Street, a low income equity co-operative initially sponsored by New York City Department of Housing, Preservation and Development (HPD) that provided ownership to tenants at $250 per unit after rehab. The city once owned 60% of distressed properties in Harlem abandoned by absentee landlords who milked the profit out these building and fled to avoid paying real estate taxes.
477 West 142nd St. HDFC has an elected Board of Directors. No individual can "found" an HDFC, no individual can own an HDFC. No individual purchased this property for several thousands dollars 30 years ago . The proof found in public records.
All privately own buildings including 477 West 142nd Street are required to register ownership and management with HPD, a public record found at nyc.gov under HPD and also the NYC Dept. of Finance that assesses property taxes and record payments.
As of 2011/06/03 the head officer of the 477 West 142nd Street HDFC is Bishop Shirley Pitts of 477 West 142nd St. Apt. 7 New York, NY 10031. As of 2011/06/03 the managing agent is Ken Bey, 1669 Amsterdam Avenue, New York, NY 10031.
There is no city pending litigation against the building but there are records of numerous complaints of no heat and hot water.
