Forum Post: Please donate to the "Clean Liberty Plaza" Fund

Hello fellow occupiers!

The habitat we've created at Liberty Plaza is getting messy. My friends and I are assembling a group of people to clean up the Plaza.

However, all workers cleaning the Plaza will of course need a living wage of $20/hour. We currently estimate that it will require 200 human hours of work to clean the Plaza and other related areas of Lower Manhattan affected by the occupation -- meaning we need to raise $4,000.

Please reply to this thread with the total amount you are willing to donate to this cause.

Yea, it could just be a scam, ya think? Or an internet troll? Hmmm

Why would someone in the park need to post on the internet for volunteers? The park already has a clean up committee set up - I've been down there a few times and each time I've seen campers sweeping and picking up trash.

I hope you're joking. The meager service workers are completely overwhelmed. The site is a wreck. It needs cleaning. If you're simply an Internet troll, I understand. But if you are part of this movement, please actually go take a look at the state of the site.

If you are there, then organize something among the people who are there.

You wouldn't be asking for volunteers from the internet and no one should send any donations anywhere but to the UPS box or the official donation link at nycga.cc

Please read the OP. I am not asking for an Internet donation. I was asking for a pledge of funds. I will collect the money at the site.

If you were actually down here, you'd know that our group is highly dispersed. This is the most effective way of reaching everyone.

That would be capitalistic... taking money from the poor downtrodden to fund your own personal wants... You should do it for free for the greater good.

or people could just pick up after themselves.

I agree, the protesters should do it for free - they're there already. Plus, this could just be a scam.

I am simply asking the protesters to contribute toward the clean up with resources. This is very communal. Like the living wage.

I think this is a great idea to clean it. But I think we could we do some of the work ourselves, as a function of the community and learned lessons of tragedy of the commons its imperative that it is done by all, for all, as a way to give back. Set aside a day and if it's during the weekend I'll be there. I love manual labor, my office job doesn't allow for much of that.
