Hi there, I'm writing with a suggestion for a telephone protest of credit card greed. It's based on something I do whenever I get a notice of a rate increase in the mail. When I get one of those notices, what I do is call the credit card company that sent it and I tell them I have a question about the notice, then I READ THE WHOLE THING TO THEM, then I READ MY ENTIRE CREDIT CARD BILL TO THEM. It takes forty minutes to an hour if you do it slowly and clearly. Then after reading the whole thing to them, I ask them why they are raising my interest. If they try to sell some specious solution in response, I start reading the whole thing to them again.
My impression is that they are not allowed to hang up, though they can put customers on hold. My idea is to demonstrate the potential power that customers have by having OWS get many people to do this at the same time on one day. Their lines would be jammed for the entire day. I also think we should arrange phone filibusters of predator companies that lobby congress whenever there is a filibuster in congress. Please consider my suggestion. I am soooo tired of arguing with credit card companies over the phone.
Make sure you take personal responsibility for your credit card debt and find a way to get out of your credit card debt and stop getting into debt. You need to decide how you want to spend your money and stick to it. You can live a happier and fuller life without any credit card debt! Stop trying to get out of your commitments... http://greathomeofficeideas.com/2011/12/13/credit-card-and-debt-management-is-vital
Hey! I love it, how do you suggest to run the phone filibuster of predator companies? I don't have a credit card so I can't call my company about my bill, but I'd definitely call predator companies to filibuster :)
Holy crap thats funny as hell. I'm all for it. I only want to add this suggestion. Call every provider and demand a lower rate. Be persistent. You may get it. My mother did. Then cancel all but one card for emergencies.
