I wanted to research who or what would be considered the "one-percent." Then, I stumbled here: http://www.opensecrets.org/pres12/index.php
Already, Obama has roughly 85 million while other candidates are drastically behind in contributions. And, as we know, there is a correlation between money and likelihood of one becoming president.
I know there are deep, fundamental problems that need to be addressed aside from what I'm proposing. However, if this petition becomes popular, I believe the lack of contributions during presidential campaigns could decrease the amount of corporate and special interest influence during one's presidency. And, a presidency could be more focused on "we the people" as opposed to "we, the corporate" Thanks for your support and thank you protesters on wall street as well around the world. I wish I could be there!
Go here: http://wh.gov/Tl8 There you'll find the petition I've written.
I think you would find that Obama agrees with this concept. (Notice that it's the White House site you're referencing.) Unfortunately, he has to play politics in the real world, where you still have to outspend your opponent so your message doesn't get distorted.
Where Obama has been different than others in the past - and the reason he's so far ahead - is that he's getting a large number of donations from grass-roots supporters. I think that's more representative of people support as opposed to support from special interest groups. But Obama has money from them too.
