If they did they wouldn't have shopped on thanksgiving day. <_<

It isn't that they don't care. It's that you can't impose a political agenda on them wholesale and get them to buy it, without deceiving them and playing dirty (and using billions of dollars to do it), and even then, you're pretty lucky to get more than a third or so (witness elections and voter turnout statistics). OWS managed to connect with between a third and a half, depending on which poll you read, which is to say the least totally amazing. But OWS isn't leading the public. It's just opened the doors to an opportunity to connect with the public, no more. That's incredibly valuable nonetheless.

The people are really concerned about the corruption in government and how much more difficult it is to get by than it used to be, for average working people. On that basis, OWS struck a chord. But these people are having trouble getting by, and they see going for sales as a way of being frugal, saving money, and helping themselves get by a little better. Maybe they're right, or maybe they're just deluded and unwittingly fuelling the conditions they find themselves in, but either way, that's what they believe.

In war, you must learn to pick your fights carefully. Sometimes this means you can't always be on the offensive - sometimes you have to hold back even though you might wish you could act. I think this was one of those cases.

That is an excellent reply.

I think that you are going to have two groups of people that are going to do this. One group makes very little money and they want to do something for Christmas and this is the only way for them to do it. It is the only time of year that they allow themselves to buy anything extra.

The other group of people, the economy hasn't really touched them yet and/or this may have become a tradition. There isn't anything that you can do about it. It just is.
