Forum Post: OWS, y u no fight for developing our natural resources

Norway is a socialist nation and is doing well due to it being a major oil exporter.

North Dakota is experiencing an oil boom and can't fill jobs fast enough.

Thus, I have been wondering, if we are to ever get out of this economic malaise, shouldn't OWS be championing increased domestic energy production.

Lastly, before people argue that oil and coal are evil, I would like our world to end up at "green" technologies. I don't think that will happen with out a booming economy driving industry. At this point, we may have a choice, either we pursue fossil fuels in the short term and green technology in the long term, or we continue to stagnate with an economy that can't even create enough jobs to keep up with immigration.

The more expensive fossil fuels are, the more incentive there is for the development of alternative energy. It's a simple enough concept.

How bout we just ban fossil fuels? We can prosecute other nations for breaking our laws. I am sure that will stand in international court.

We cannot ban fossil fuels. Alternative fuels just are not efficient and plentiful enough at this time. As it stands now, we will have to use fracking and nuclear technologies to meet power demands in the near future. America has to go on an energy diet at some point. This would actually be a good thing in the moderate and long terms as it would encourage innovation towards alternative fuels.

You want our economy to grow, but you also want us to use less energy.

Ask china how that is going and get back to me when you have the results.

[-] 2 points by imrational (527) 13 years ago

China is investing in alternative fuels like crazy.

America is not. If you notice, I said "moderate and long term" NOT short term.

going to need more energy to grow the economy, not less

doesn't matter where it comes from, as long as it is cheap and abundant

Waitaminute, one of the problems with the forum is that when you go to an answered comment, you miss out on the previous ones unless you scroll up. So, I'm sorry, but it looks like we're in agreement on a lot of stuff. No argument here, other than DOWN THE ROAD, we will have to get off fossil fuels which will likely require raising their cost.

Where is that can do american spirit.

Green energy that is cheaper and better than fossil fuel. Go.

[-] 1 points by imrational (527) 13 years ago

fossil fuel is much cheaper than green. That is one reason why green has been so slow. It's not a good enough bang for the buck without governmental incentives right now.

[-] 1 points by beardy (282) 13 years ago

I mean, instead of raising fossil fuel prices to make the currently green technology economically viable, why not just do a better job and invent better energy that is cheaper.

[-] 1 points by imrational (527) 13 years ago

we're working on it, but it is not as easy as it sounds. Right now, we have NOTHING that is as cheap and efficient as fossil fuels. NOTHING. Talking to scientists, it is unlikely we will have anything soon... except for maybe some biofuels where we grow bacteria that produce it, and even then we still have to worry about carbon footprint, pollution, etc.

Im so angry with your nonsence! The world has never been more booming than now, its just gonna take a revolution so that we get informed again.I don´t know if I´m angry when i read your message because i´m desparate, you are ingorant, or because people like you are simply a part of population, but please understand the world can change to other energies really quickly, but it would mean change of power, or simply change anyway, and humans don´t want that.

So what are you waiting for? Release this "other energy." I am tired of drilling wells and being away from home.

[-] 1 points by soloenbarcelona (199) from Barcelona, CT 13 years ago

Poeff, thanks for the push in the back. Well, hope I can be part of it, but its not easy. Well in Spain I mean, and my Chinese isn´t good enough. But I won´t giveup!

World is booming due to other countries developing cheap energy resources. I don't see China building a new solar power plant every 10 days.

The International Energy Agency recently said China has become the world's biggest energy consumer - surpassing the United States.

[-] 1 points by beardy (282) 13 years ago

Good read. Doesn't that just prove my point that the only way to green energy is through fossil fuels and a booming economy?

[-] 1 points by soloenbarcelona (199) from Barcelona, CT 13 years ago

lol, and sorry yes, maybe not the best article to prove my point.

[-] 1 points by soloenbarcelona (199) from Barcelona, CT 13 years ago

Well it´s defenatly not the only way, and I hope a world-wide movement will accelerate some processes that need more attention, even if it means some might lose a little. But at the speed China is going with renewable energy and the rest, we can hopefully vote for a chinese president soon, when they really dominate the world. (I just can´t understand why we cannot do anything together to make this a cleaner world, but then again, I know we are too rich and leazy.)

GTFO Big Energy shill.

[-] 0 points by beardy (282) 13 years ago

I totally agree, we need to get back to good ol' days, when I could just walk down mainstreet and pick up some energy from a mom and pop store.

Good call beady, These people have no idea how much energy it took for them to get their iPhone in their hands. Nor how much electricity it takes to keep the network up for them to post this crap.
