Use college faculty. Have them offer teach-ins on the chosen day, advertised in advance. The bolder ones could cancel their classes.

OWS has a great deal of support from people who are not about to join in public protest. A general strike would be a fantastic way for such folks to show support, as well as dismay at what has happened in Oakland.

November 8th is election day (at least in California). Many people feel election day should be a work holiday anyway.

I think a good way of moving a general strike is for college faculty to announce teach-ins on that day, open to the public. Once enough colleges indicate an interest in participating, it will force coverage.

The system depends, as it always has, on consent. A general strike (has it ever happened in US history) would reveal the lack of consent for the existing system in a way that no public protest can -- it enables a much wider swath of our society to raise its voice.

Let's redouble the outreach to labor. The UK labor movement has called for a general strike on November 30th. Occupy Wall Street must show solidarity with comrades in the UK, Greece, Chile and around the world.

Great idea, so how do we actually organise one?
