Forum Post: OWS Media?

Maybe it might be naive of me to propose this, but i just want to see what everyone thinks.

It seems to me that one problem we're worried about is the media distorting the facts... What if we created our own news media that states what's really going on. Like on top of this site a magazine or news paper or even perhaps.. a news channel?

Then perhaps we could give proper media attention to possible candidates if we ever wanted to go that route... or whatever else we'd want to get out to everyone.

We have this forum here, the issue is we all choose to come here where as other media has the option of providing information to people whether they want it or not. We need a propaganda engine for our cause. Which isn't necessarily bad, just difficult, expensive, and time consuming. Also, that would mean some sort of organization, which seems anathema to this movement at this time.

right. I think this forum is brilliant. But it isn't widespread enough. And having an organization isn't necessarily bad if we remember that its not the bottom line that matters but the people. I just don't want the media to hijack this movement for its own purposes, but I guess perhaps we can just be big enough that the media can't ignore us. Time will tell.

I dunno. Watching the RussiaToday videos on youtube, that seems like it's own OWS propaganda engine.

I just watched a RussiaToday video for the first time. I had to look it up though, where as the other types of tv, newspaper media, the large populace doesn't have to go far out of their way to see. After watching the last 3 pres elections it is abundantly clear that they have large sway in political decisions. How do we crack the hold on the general public?

Don't get me wrong. My last post was in total sarcasm mode. I'm not an advocate of blatant propaganda. Heck, I'm not even in agreement with the whole OWS movement.

Russia Today is about a blatant a propaganda machine you can get without catching them in your cause's bed with the cause's panties on its head.

The thing is, to the every suggestion in the original post, you have the same thing you have with a news station you have to look up on youtube: you can't force people to watch it. There's no way you can "provid[e] information to people whether they want it or not", not when we live in such a "self-service entertainment" world.

Totally true, self-service media is revolutionary for society. But there is no denying the power that media has on the public opinion and vote. That is because it is easily accessible by the masses. And being part of this society I find my self reading magazines in offices, walking in stores with the news on, seeing headlines as I walk past a news stand in the airport, it is pervasive and I am not specifically going out of my way for this information.

The ideal media outlet is non-biased leading people to make their own decisions. But the ability to determine a non-biased report versus a biased report is incredible difficult. So I was using the term propaganda for a media outlet because there is no such thing as non-biased in an organization. For my purpose as an American voter I want a propaganda network the espouses free thought and social responsibility... realistic probably not.

and I know I'm using terms wrong here, but oh well.
