While I would agree with many of the issues, to me the majority of protests are a joke. You block your own 99% from getting to work, or going shopping, or being able to enjoy public locations.
I have had the joy of walking past saied peaceful protests to be criminalized by the people "fighting " to help better my situation.
If you want to make a change do it.
Not by intimidating the public around you for not joining your cause makes you no better than a terrorist.
I have friends and family members that don't feel safe going near protestors, if your cause truely is peaceful why is it that many of the 99% avoid you?
Last comment sorry but when the majority of protestors are 18 to 21 college kids, its really difficult for the working 99% to support those who have had handouts their entire life!
Nice try!
Try at what stating how many people view this so called movement? 2010s ows is Gen y's hippy movement
"but when the majority of protestors are 18 to 21 college kids, its really difficult for the working 99% to support those who have had handouts their entire life!"
Do you understand how much more difficult it is NOW, to get a proper education than it was for the generations preceding us?
Do you understand how much more difficult it is NOW, to get a job than it was for the generations preceding us? Even with that proper education?
If you want to have a discussion on "hand-outs", you can start with the baby boomer generation and work your way up from there...
Right because most the protestors don't have smartphones, ipads, toys in general. Getting an education is actually rather simple you just have to use effort and work for it. The job market is a little rough, but once again if you are willing to put forth effort you can get good jobs. Sorry but when people in their 30s and up get laid off, and decide to go back to school and then get a better job after leaves me no sympathy for all the kids pushing this. So once again stop looking for handouts.
I'm 59 and staring layoffs in the face. The economy is fucked. Anyone with eyes can see that. What you're saying made sense - 20 years ago. It has little or nothing to do with today.
You know? I don't have a smartphone...In fact yesterday was the first time I ever personally saw and handled a smart phone. I was hanging out at the gas-station my wife works at, when I met the most lovely elderly couple trying to make heads-and-tails of a new smart phone they had recently acquired. I probably chatted with them for 2+ hours teaching them every little trick I could think of...I had no idea those things come with metal detectors...
If only I could find the app that does my laundry and dishes, I'd be set.
The whole issue I have, is ows has great ideas, but the actions being taken are causing more negative than positive for the cause.
There are exceptions to everything, but sorry the face of ows to most the general public are the 18 to 21 year old college kids who are just throwing tantrums.
Blocking banks, wal marts, etc etc and instilling fear into people that work there (which are usually the 99% ) is an act of terrorism. I can't fault the 99% whom have responsibities and choose to work to support their families, even if they do work for the 1%.
It was said in another post, occupying does nothing, what the occupies should do is pool their funds together and start creating businesses to create competition for those corporations and force change. Appearing lazy or hostile does nothing to help.
