"I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. . . . corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed." -- U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, Nov. 21, 1864 (letter to Col. William F. Elkins) Ref: The Lincoln Encyclopedia, Archer H. Shaw (Macmillan, 1950, NY)
They were smart people. Too bad their descendants haven't been worthy of them.

Wrote this on a forum in response to this PDBS guy just a minute ago. Damn these unquestioning content masses. 1 min ago please dont be stupid wrote:
then my response : ok pdbs, in no way in your incoherant rambling do you even resemble a response to the man who spoke before you. You served in Nam, point taken, thank you. Seriously, thank you. The man who founded SEAL team 6 started in Vietnam, in the Delta river basin, the same team responsible for the death of Bin Laden. Vietnam was a mess, it was also the first war covered in the media as it happened. We have now perfected the use of media, so much in fact that it is now the responsibility of you and your fellow man. Now visit http://nycga.cc/ and watch the video 'nobody can predict the moment of revolution' and tell me you arent the slightest bit interested in whats going on here. This is now, you are content to think that the old fashioned way you built your life will sustain you into the future? News flash, they are taking our future away!! What you dont have in your hands right now, what you believe you are entitled to, well that my friend is just a promise. A promise from a government that cant even regulate or trust itself. You really sleep at night content in beLIEving that? I've followed this movement for almost 2 weeks now while all the uninformed have been blacked out (literally or metaphorically you decide). I wont go on about corporate greed or the 1% but I will say this...the populous of this country has been the sleeping giant this time and this time there need be no bombs. This time words will slay, numbers will defeat. Strength in numbers has nothing to do with the digits in your bank account, it has everything to do with the number of individuals who stand as one. And middle class?...what middle class? Does that exist anymore? This is a movement unlike any before, it did not start with a specific goal, it started with the knowledge that 99% of us are not happy with the way things are going in OUR country. It started with the knowledge that the rich were taking our futures away. Do you understand that word? future? it is everything to us who want to continue to thrive here in this land that we love. We dont tap dance around the issues, we just build our numbers and occupy and take steps to become one entity, one beautiful coexisting group of humanity that wants to see progress and change and prosperity for all mankind. No segregation, no hatred..for hatred is an utterly wasted emotion and segregation is a dead end. This is about mankind coming together and taking back what belongs to the masses, not the money.
"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs."
-Thomas Jefferson (Attributed)
damn... they definitely saw it coming. I've seen a few quotes that were scary accurate like this one. Check out FDR's farewell address...
