Mass media has done a good job at keeping OWS out of the spotlight, once again proving that they are not part of the solution. What is worse is that there are those who without being prompted by the media to take notice, will continue to be oblivious to what is taking place. Information about the movement is also largely being kept out of mainstream public schools, forfeiting our childrens opportunity to explore the idea of making change happen from the bottom up.
We have gotten to a point that we allow popular media to also bring subjects to light as teaching moments with our children. We must be more proactive than that. These issues are going to be even more vital to future generations than our own. We must take this chance to make our children aware, in an age appropriate manner, of what is going on and why. We need to include them in our discussions whenever possible and encourage them to be vocal about their views with classmates and friends.
When young people latch onto hope and idealism, seemingly nothing will stand between them and their goal. Let us tap into that ready enthusiasm and help them work with us to achieve a better future.
We sure do. I don't think children are getting our message. I think we are getting out of touch with older women also. We really need to focus our attention on these two groups, to my mind. Children are the future, and these issues will affect them. Older women are terribly important also, as they rule the roost! :)
This is definitely a muti-generational issue(s). We have seen the result of women and children being harnessed by extremism. I think it is past time we showed what can happen when they are empowered and educated in a positive, change rich environment.
