Only need two demands: public finance of elected offices, and outlaw special interest groups.

Here's an alternative.

Amendment to the Constitution: A corporate entity, in and of itself, is not a person and, therefore, is not entitled to the rights and protections afforded to people as set forth in the Constitution of the United States of America. Stop this nonsense that a corporation is the same as a person! Then limit personal contributions to a politician/political party to $1,000.00. Otherwise, a corporation can buy whichever politician they want in office....and the politician will do their bidding and not represent the people. Which may already be happening?

I'd say make special interest group meetings and all lobbying of public officals a matter of public record. Like the first bit thought. Quite a lot. Just remember though, that special interest can also mean a group representing a point or idea you wish to see carried to power, even for noble intentions.

lol

he says "outlaw special interest groups"

Guarantee you that the stereotypical "special interest group" he's talking about is more mainstream than Occupy Wall Street.

We need more than that. This article sums it up. It's well written and explains it in layman's term.

Great definition of how we got into this and how to get out!

I agree, we definitely need more. Here are some things to think about, please watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TX1N3opw5eI

What about getting control of the media back so it serves the people?

[-] 1 points by Rico (3027) 13 years ago

Do any of you watch PBS? I REFUSE to watch any other new but the News Hour.

Yes, they DO still have SOME sponsors, but MOST are charitable trusts, and all those people working on it DO need to be paid SOMEHOW !

[-] 1 points by ComplexMissy (291) 13 years ago

I do! All the time...

[-] 1 points by Rico (3027) 13 years ago

Well you know, the business types DO watch ratings, so if EVERYONE starts watching PBS instead of FOX, NBC, ADC, blah, blah, maybe SOMEONE will GET THE MESSAGE that we want REAL NEWS !

OK, that was pretty darned interesting and NOW I know where some of the language I've been hearing in here comes from.

You'll have to take me at my word when I say I have spent the past 40 years of my life studying EVERYTHING about what we call "Reality" ranging through philosophy, religion, psychology, perception, physics, economics, politics, etc.. literally EVERYTHING including the history of the evolution of knowledge (heck I read "flatland" when I was about 12 years old!). You can therefore imagine that some of what was said would resonate with me. I do have some concerns about some "leaps" that were taken to cross a few logic gaps, but I'm going to let those go for now until I have absorbed everything I can about this mode of thought.

If you're still around here, maybe I'll drop in and share my thoughts, though it appears it will probably take me a while to fully assimilate all the materials out there.

Thanks for turning me on to this!

You're welcome! :)

Agreed. Right now it only serves corporate interest.

I've been wondering about that, too. But I don't have a great solution. There needs to be a credible, non-profit media structure, but not state media. How do we start this conversation? I think it needs to be had, and I'd love to sit in on it, but I don't want to start one because I don't know if I'd have anything to add.

Please watch, there are tips here for what we can do now, on a personal level:

Also, I would suggest to everyone here that we refuse to participate in the flawed political process by NOT voting next year at all.

Well, I'm willing to give the ZM a chance to convince me in the long-term. But I'm thinking along the lines of more realistic goals in the short-term. Because ZM has a long, long, long way to go.

[-] 1 points by ComplexMissy (291) 13 years ago

Okay, listen to this and see what you think, this is Peter Joseph's radio show where he discusses OWS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3fqYpnw9oU

And I don't know if it has a long way to go, a lot of the ideas and points from Zeitgeist are linked with what we're fighting for here. It's important to have an understanding of how we got to this point so that we can better know what to do in the short- and long-term. I think this explains it all in a nutshell: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TX1N3opw5eI

Oh, believe me. ZM is way off the radar for the vast majority of Americans. ZM is utterly new for most people. Occupy has been percolating with most Americans for at least a generation, and arguably longer. Man is a slow beast.

[-] 1 points by ComplexMissy (291) 13 years ago

Well perhaps getting it on the radar will help this movement move towards success faster? I hope so anyway....

There is a lot to hope for from humanity. I think the key is to hope for the best, but don't be disappointed by the worst, and to remember that humanity has never gotten anything right the first time, but we usually keep trying.
