“We well know that we cannot escape danger, or the fear of danger, by crawling into bed and pulling the covers over our heads.” --- Franklin Delano Roosevelt
There is a growing feeling amoung humans that there are crises brewing, a plethora of dangers against which we all must prepare. Given that we are all human citizens of this world, sharing this habitat within the cold vastness of the cosmos, it is time that we take the next obvious step in human evolution. As our population continues to grow, currently 7 billion strong, strategies that may have been practical in the past must necessarily be reevaluated for inefficiencies and fixed or replaced in ways that best secure the possibilities of moving forward in the future.
We all must endeavor to reach a better consensus on how to deal with the world, and the problems that we now all face, some external, many of our own making. It is the time to put thoughts on the table, and have a frank, informed and open discussion. Since we all have an equal stake in the risks and responsibilities of being alive, then we all must have a roughly equal stake in the rewards as well. To keep things stable, we all need to feel as though we are getting a fair shake. We need to feel that there is security in moving forward together, a reasonable confidence that what we are working together to achieve will give us the results that we all need to survive and prosper as a world.
Everyone wants a reasonable ability to have a good and productive life, where we can realize our dreams. This needs to be a real possibility, for everyone, for harmony to exist between us. This is the starting point to realize our full potential as a species, and as a living planet. There are no guarantees in life, and a number of potential catastrophes are looming. History has shown us what the error of inaction will bring. Geologic history shows at least some of the outside threats that we are up against. Solutions must be achieved as soundly, sanely and successfully as possible, calling upon the sum of human knowledge, understanding and culture to achieve this end.
The time is now. There is no stopping an idea whose time has come.
Nine Steps That Will Help Things Along:
The Pursuit of Lasting Strategies For Human Survival and Evolution. “In our every deliberation, we must consider the impact of our decisions on the next seven generations.”--- From the Great Law of the Iroquois Confederacy
Adopting a long term approach to planning the course of human endeavors based on the limits of human understanding. What are we trying to do as a species over the next 5 years, 25 years, century, or millennia? Big projects take alot of time. We will be on planet earth for a while, with no where else to go. So let’s stop living day to day, and start making and following through with big plans, and setting things up right for the long haul.
Ending War and Warfare Economies. Ending of the holding, use, manufacture and sale of arms worldwide. Dismantlement of the nuclear arsenal worldwide. A complete restructuring of the world’s economic systems will be possible, once working for self destruction isn’t a high priority. Humanity cannot continue to practice this barbaric rite. Each and every person has the potential to give, so losing precious potential to “collateral damage” is wholly unacceptable.
Worldwide Direct Vote. Current technology allows the possibility of a direct vote by everyone: the true implementation of one human, one vote. Representative government, with all of its pitfalls, can finally be a thing of the past. Increased responsibility will necessitate increased awareness and education of the voting individual, and the free exchange of ideas.
An Established World Standard of Living and Exchange. Each person’s time is as valuable as the next. Establishment of a worldwide common standard of living, including cradle to grave food, housing, health care and education as the logical base starting place of the next wave of human evolution.
Establishing a Broad Base of Human Freedom. “Freedom : the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action.” --- Merriam Webster
Once an equitable and sustainable standard of living is attained, human freedom must follow. One should be free to do one’s will as long as it does not impinge on the free will of another. Historically this has been a sticky point within the human community. By encouraging the traits of reason, tolerance, empathy and understanding in education and morality, harmony can be achieved on rational grounds.
Most of us are elightened, it happened long enough ago that we ought to be. We are in a state of Anomie, directionless, flooded by the images that bombard us every waking moment, overloaded with a subtle knowledge of the corruption and evil of the world, and godless. a very godless generation if you ask me, if were all to be honest with ourselves. we just live and die and since no one has much hope for an afterlife, everyones decided to just do whatever they want in the time they have. we seem to just not give a fuck, and justly so! this is the first time i have seen the coma broken, the people awake as if from slumber, and similarly are blinded by the morning light, dilated eyes must focus, but we are all so fragmented. many want this revolution to be socialist, well i dont trust the government with more power, isn't that something to learn from this? but i dont really trust many things and justly so. i dont really believe wholeheartedly in many things, and justly so! communism is a beautiiful ideal but cannot be implemented because well i dont trust the leaders, whoever they may be, for they are human. Humans who did not have ben parker as their uncle. so what to do when democratic capitalism discontents the people? we are disillusioned and are stagnant, we cannot simultaneously believe in everything and nothing anymore. a path must be taken. what to do with the new power that will be given us when the world is ripe for change? I'd argue we never had a true democratic capitalism because there was never a free market. I would suggest a return to the constitution, a critical look at the future of america. this is the time to do it. anonymous, ben parker, have you guys met before? hes got some great, very marketable, lines of advice.
