I support the need for political and economic change that OWS has cast a light on. I don't support the movements ill conceived methods; raise taxes on the the rich and corporations. These methods will create a class war and chase corporations out of the USA, eliminating even more jobs!

I recently read that 6 to 7 Billion will be spend on the 2012 federal elections (i.e. President, congress, and senate). Contributions for the 2008 federal election were $5.6 billion and for the 2010 election they were 3.6 billion, total $9.2 billion. There are 189 million people in this country between 18 and 65. Dividing the election dollar contributions by the population between voting age and retirement (i.e. 18 to 65), we get $48.68!!!

Now, that $48.68 is for four years worth of federal elections! So we must divide that by 4 years, result, $12.17 annually, or $1.01 per month. Now, ask yourself Americans, how much did you spend supporting the very corporations you despise. How much do you spend at Redbox last night, at Starbucks this morning, on your texting plan this month, the latest iPhone App, your cable bill, etc.? My guess...a lot more than the $1.01/month it would take to get your political system back!

So, the two most important goals of the OWS movement should be.

  1. OUTLAW CORPORATE, UNION, AND INTEREST GROUP CONTRIBUTIONS TO POLITICIANS AND MANDATE A $12.17 ANNUAL ELECTION FINANCE TAX!!!

Once you get the corporations and special interests out of Washington, we will have won the single and most decisive battle in revolutionizing our political and economic system. The politicians will start listening to the 99% (the people) again, and change for that majority will start to take place.

There is an axiom about social change: Economics is the single most effective way to obtain social change.

Change the source of campaign financing and social change will happen.

I agree. How do we get Congress to ban the contributions? March on the Capitol or vote them all out?
