Do you know what NoKXL means?

NoKXL means you want a safe climate for you and your children.

NoKXL means you think producing safe, clean, renewable energy at home is more important than digging up dirty energy and exporting it for Big Oil’s profits.

NoKXL means you stand with the ranchers and farmers of Nebraska, the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation, more than 50,000 people who have pledged civil disobedience and literally millions more.

NoKXL means "No to the Keystone XL Pipeline". We’re heading into the critical last phase of the campaign here, and we need your help in spreading the word to ensure the Obama administration rejects the dirty, dangerous Keystone XL pipeline.

Oil Change International has played a vital role in exposing the many reasons the Administration should reject the Keystone XL pipeline. We released new analysis showing the pipeline’s greenhouse gas emissions are even greater than previously thought. We showed that the pipeline would be used to fuel refineries that are already exporting most of their oil around the world. And we exposed the hypocrisy of building more oil pipelines while promising to address climate change.i

But as evident as the reasons for rejection are, the influence of the fossil fuel industry is just as clear in the debate over Keystone XL. We have reasons and facts and good people like you. They have money. So it goes.

Presenting clear arguments for rejecting this pipeline backed by data is a fundamental first step, but we know it’s not enough. We need the many of you, because the industry has so much money.

As one member of our team said to me recently: “Loosen the bolts on the kitchen sink. We need to be ready to throw everything.” We know that Big Oil is all in on this one and we know we need to be too. So we're working with our friends at The Other 98% to spread the word as far and wide as we can.

Will you go to NOKXL.org and sign up? And will you please help us by telling ten of your friends? It’s easy.

When you’re done signing up, please spread the word:

We have to show the Obama administration just how big this movement is. The only way we can combat the millions in Big Oil money in DC is by bringing even more people to the front. And with your help, we’ll do just that. Onwards, Steve

Since March 11, the global oil industry has had 13 spills on three continents. http://www.filmsforaction.org/news/a_month_in_the_life_of_big_oil_13_oil_spills_in_30_days/

If for no other reason - fossil fuel must be ended just to stop the spills.

This IS where you wanted this related link, correct?

The whole comment. YEP

The articles I attached are just below.

BTW - I see that you already did - thx. ( above )

Cool.

And you might not get around much, but you sure have fast fingers, heheh.

Thx I am a speedy hunt and peck type-r?

[-] 3 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 11 years ago

Hunt and peck is all I do also. Never learned to type formally.

And I could've swore I had another good oil-related link to post here along with that 'month in the life' link, but I couldn't find it.

AH-HAa the over full e-mail strikes.

Heheh, it was a bookmark, but that's almost as bad. An ever-increasing, disorganized mess.

[+] -6 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

I hear ya - and straightening out features like bookmarks is not as simple as it was back in 2007. Windows has been improved - removing many easy access control features that you used to have. Yay

[-] 3 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 11 years ago

Yay indeed. Gates and Co. certainly don't want you to have too much control or options on your OS, that's for sure. It boggles, man. He got to be one of the richest people on the planet by making a product that ranged from mediocre to horrible, back to mediocre. Like I said the other night, just the right place at the right time, with the right support group (family, etc.).

[+] -6 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Really crazy how that happens.

Yeah, only one in a million is that lucky. And luck definitely plays a part, regardless of what some might think. For those that think otherwise, I have one word for them: Rockefeller.

Consider: Rockefeller made his first money selling oil for lighting. Lighting homes and businesses. There's no way in hell, in the 1860's or '70's that he could have foreseen the internal combustion engine. At the time, as you know, gasoline was a waste product, far too volatile for any practical use. Electricity would've probably bankrupted him. And then, voila! The automobile. If that wasn't the very definition of luck I don't know what is.

In a way that sounds very familiar - Hydrogen anyone?

Good analogy. And car-related as well.

Just imagine - Every internal combustion engine in the Whole World making water vapor exhaust full time or part time if the vehicle ran on battery part time. Wonder what that would do to the weather - I'm thinking that it would be much better than CO2.

Why am I, a North Carolinian, walking 100 miles from Camp David to the White House? So that President Obama will say "No to Keystone XL!" for my grandchildren, who are not yet born, and for everyone's grandchildren.

It may seem a long shot to take a walk to stop Keystone XL. People like you and me have already submitted over one million public comments saying no to this dirty pipeline and over 60,000 of us have pledged to risk arrest to stop it. I stand with all of you who've spoken out. I am walking because I believe that everyone has to do what they can to fight the isolation and despair that comes from staring down a planet-killer like Keystone XL. I won't walk alone—I will be walking with my 14 year-old daughter Anna and with many others—parents, grandparents and children. Will you stand with my daughter and me as we walk 100 miles to stop Keystone? Sign your name here and I will carry your message to the White House with thousands of others as we show Obama that people of all ages are ready to spend their time, energy, even their very bodies in order to stop this pipeline—and all others like it.

Protest is a word that doesn’t even begin to capture the seriousness of my intent. As I walk I will leave behind the man who was a pliant accomplice to the destruction of our planet. I hope to inspire others to do likewise. And I hope that after 100 miles, when we arrive in DC on July 27th, President Obama will hear our call and leave behind his own preconceptions by saying "No" to Keystone XL. But he will be much more likely to do that if we have tens of thousands of people behind us. Can you add your name in support of our intergenerational, nonviolent march? I promise to keep you posted of all the change we make along the way.
