Forum Post: Official OWS Video from Ed David - Bad Sign

Wonder how much business film maker ED DAVID (all caps) will get from having his name so prominently plastered to this video?

He does commercial CORPORATE work. See his web site.

I thought we were not going to get co-opted by donations with logos on them.

How is ED DAVID (all caps) getting prime name recognition on this very OWS web site any different than having McDonald's name all over a posting just because they gave OWS some food?

How abut this clever idea, DocWatson? Stop Trolling. It's not hard to implement.

Minutes From 10/22 Coordinators Meeting: "Joshua/Kitchen: big things, some businesses that we are trying to work with and need to branch out with other groups. Support, but no logos. Don’t want to get co-opted."

See it at : http://www.nycga.net/category/minutes/

Millions and millions of Americans do corporate commercial work dumbass.

He's getting recognition because he made the fucking video and it was a good one.

You sound like Glenn Beck, "Hey, it's just business". Everyone has to make a buck, right?

[-] 1 points by booshington (397) 13 years ago

There are plenty of corporations that are just fine by me.

Are you suggesting that all corporations are bad?

[-] 1 points by DocWatson (109) 13 years ago

I realize there is pervasive marketing in the outer world. Just thought that would not go on inside OWS.

[-] 1 points by booshington (397) 13 years ago

It's his fucking name dude.

So let me get this straight.... ...he's a "corporate" filmmaker who decided to take his tools, time and talent to give people a chance to have their voice heard. Regardless of his background. And the most you can do is complain about his work history, despite the beauty and purpose behind the word he's created?

Hmmmmn... someone needs something to complain about; this is grasping straws at a strong level, I would think.

Here's a better question: why didn't YOU do what he did? Or better yet, CAN you and or HAVE you?

[-] 0 points by DocWatson (109) 13 years ago

Why can't his video alone be posted? Why does his name in all caps and web link have to be so prominent?

Also, he does work for corporations, not "corporations". It is not a sorta, kinda type of thing.

[-] 2 points by KahL (8) 13 years ago

Why can't he, why can't he....seriously? This really does sound like straight salty jealousy

[-] 1 points by DocWatson (109) 13 years ago

Why don't you address the basic violation of no promotion of business or commercial interests?

This accusation of jealousy is a lame attempt to deflect attention from a glaring violation of a main OWS principle that is occurring right on the main page.

[-] 1 points by KahL (8) 13 years ago

sigh nevermind, man.

[-] 1 points by DocWatson (109) 13 years ago

Yep, that's what I thought.

No substantive reply to an obvious violation or at least over sight by whoever posted the Ed David video to the front page of this web site.

[-] 0 points by DocWatson (109) 13 years ago

So he gets a pass. That is a basic quid pro quo right there.

So can Starbucks get their logo on the front page if they donate 30 gallons of coffee to OWS every day in the winter? No difference.

[-] 2 points by KahL (8) 13 years ago

I'm pretty sure you did not answer the question in the least. Honestly, it looks like you're simply complaining just for the sake of complaining and don't have a real issue to begin with at all.

Again, the man and his team created a great visual art piece that most love and serves the purpose to give a voice for this movement. You...are complaining and I'm still curious to see if you've created something similar to his team's work to at least give your "argument" a bit of leverage.

You are avoiding the obvious contradiction to OWS policy of no logos and no promotion of business.

Your question to me if I could make a video makes as much sense if you asked if I could do drumming in Zuccotti. Not relevant.

[-] 2 points by KahL (8) 13 years ago

Do you have a logo on your jeans? How about your sneakers? Or the hat you may have on, the jacket on your back and that cup of coffee in hand?

You can't avoid logo and corporations in EVERY FACET; there's a logical limit to everything. That is unless you're butt naked with a cardboard sign to cover your jibblets.

Even still, a corp helped create the paper that board's made from. Get a grip man. There can be a purpose and a point without being an illogical extremist.

[-] 1 points by DocWatson (109) 13 years ago

So you would be ok if they left the good work of his video on the main page but removed the logos and link to his commercial web site?

I mean, you main interest is the quality of the video, right?

Hey, check out his work for the Wall street finance firm Deloitte at http://www.kittyguerrilla.com/Deloitte/

[-] 2 points by thebeastchasingitstail (1912) 13 years ago

Deloitte is an accounting & audit firm, not an investment bank.

[-] 0 points by DocWatson (109) 13 years ago

Umm, they sign off on the financial records of the biggest finance firms. They are enablers of Big Finance plain as day.

It is on the friggin' main page of this web site ! http://occupywallst.org/

Click on the fist at the top of the page.

His name will be on the main page for weeks as it slowly scrolls down under new postings.

How does any business get to have their name and web link so prominent on this web site?

ED DAVID is a business, he works under his own name. That is the name of his business.

[-] 2 points by thebeastchasingitstail (1912) 13 years ago

OWS has "promoted" the small businesses surrounding the park by asking supporters to buy food from them as opposed to big franchise/corporate stores.

The stores are named on the site & on Twitter - liberato's pizza, panini, etc

I don't think they'd promote or request food donations from Starbucks.

This guy is an independent film maker, he's not SONY.

Link or it didn't happen.
