In a leadeless movement, there are times when people need to have certain information verified or refuted. This is best handled by having officially designated Media spokespeople to respond to allegations of serious nature. Case in point would be the situation with the volunteer kitchen worker. Certainly the Media spokespeople cannot speak for those involved in any incidents, but they can clear up any misconceptions about actions that have been taken on behalf of the encampment.

In this case, people would feel more safe if they knew there were official security people who could be summoned when necessary to prevent problems from escalating. If every person occupying the park had a whistle, with guidelines for the circumstances to use it in, others would know there is a community watch in place, and no one from the community should become accused or suspect. In the event someone from the community does do something wrong, they know they will be held accountable, and the damage would be minimized.

One suggestion for those in the tents, if they have a tentmate would be take shifts outside the tent making sure nobody could wander in while their tentmate was sleeping, in addition to the community watch patrols.

Many people are in the justice system wrongly accused and identified, every effort should be made to be sure that does not happen.

People should also not take once incident and assume it is more than once incident, although in this case whomever perpetrated an assault against the woman needs to be held accountable.
