Forum Post: OccupyWallSt is not decentralized.

I've been digging around a bit and am finding that the Occupy Movement is not exactly decentralized. Quite simply, the movement is quite fragile and mainly a show put on by www.occupywallst.org. In turn, this website is likely run by the Adbusters organization.

So, my concern is this. Let's pretend that OccupyWallSt.org posts on their blog a post titled, "Let's stop protesting." Would that kill the movement?

I made such a post about one month ago - not to kill the energy of the movement, but to engage a critique regarding the efficacy and values of protest culture in America - and I have seen similar posts by other individuals. In the midst of all the fervour, they are overlooked entirely. Critical thinking seems to be declining as we are swept away by action and discussion.

I doubt it.

And you'd be wrong.

Background on Kalle Lasn of Adbusters:

More information regarding the origin of this "spontaneous movement," including that the primary OWS web site was originally registered to Lasn (since hidden using an anonymous registration service) in early June 2011, prior to the July time frame he states in various interviews as when this all began:

Lots more if you want to look for it.

Sorry, u been played bro. lol

i agree, in a way, people are being played here. The movement is actually incredibly well-organized - the servers for this website alone would cost thousands of dollars (per month), while protesters are being fed and sheltered. I'm finding professionally produced videos and posters as well - more or less, propaganda.

I'm not really complaining though, as I think it's a good thing Americans are waking up. BUT, STAY ON YOUR GUARD. Don't just think or do whatever Occupy tells you to do - evaluate for yourself every step of the way. At some point, the true agenda of this website may be revealed - someone has poured a lot of money into this movement and is likely expecting a return on investment. Perhaps the message may slightly alter course over time, who knows...

Lots of people there are well intentioned. I kind of got sucked in too for a while. But this is bullshit. I'm not going to be a mindless little puppet for Lasn or anyone else.

I said I doubt it with respect to the movement being killed if a post were made to "stop protesting"
