To all the people who are blaming Ms. Fox for this tragedy, I would like to point out that Ms. Fox was presumably working off of the traditional American precedent that peaceful protesters do not get attacked by the police. Let me remind you that Ms. Fox was hit in the stomach by a police officer—if you think she should have expected this in America, you're nuts.
No a pregnant woman should not be going to a protest because no protest is guaranteed to be peaceful. What blatant disregard this woman showed for her unborn child. I hope they can pin some kind of crime on her, someone like that is mentally ill and has no problem using an unborn baby as a publicity tool. Shame on you for supporting this.
Well, also, she was homeless and living in the Occupy camp. It became a "protest" when the police were shutting down the camp. Can't really blame her, where else should she be staying? You suggest prison. Any suggestions from people who aren't sociopaths?
The woman is homeless, 19 and got knocked up and didn't have the common sense to get away from a bad situation that was endangering her unborn child and you guys are trying to make her into an enlightened martyr and also using her dead fetus as a political tool. Love it.
No one wanted Jennifer Fox to be a martyr, least of all Jennifer Fox herself. It's not a political tool if it's the reality of what happened: A policeman hit a pregnant woman in the stomach. Where's the political tool in OWS saying that this is fucked up? It is fucked up! Enjoy trolling, John.
"I hope they can pin some kind of crime on her"
Are you serious?
"I hope they can pin some kind of crime on her,": YOU really are a shameless, mean-spirited, sick f**k !
yes because unlike her i respect an unborn baby fetus. Fuck off you insensitive prick. It's sad how you are trying to manipulate a dead fetus story for your political gain you sick fuck.
It's HER body & baby and therefore ... "Fuck off You insensitive prick. It's sad how You are trying to manipulate a dead fetus story for Your political gain You sick fuck."
Comprendez, You unconscionable c*nt ?!
honi soit qui mal y pense ...
One of them is Jennifer Fox, 19, an Occupier who has been with the demonstration since it began operations at Westlake Park in downtown Seattle. Previously homeless, she now sleeps every night at the Occupation, grateful for a safe place to lay her head. She is not just here because Occupy Seattle provides her shelter, however. She has participated in every march since the beginning of the movement and identifies with its goals. "We deserve to have a change and I felt like Occupy Seattle needed more people to participate."
^^^^ that is why.

Any Jesus freak would tell you that's MURDER. Heck I'm an atheist and I call it murder too... by the cop who kicked the pregnant woman.
@ Var : So who are you suggesting did the "murder"-ing ?!
The cop who assaulted the pregnant woman.
Ooops, sorry mate ! I think I reacted too hastily without fully reading your post !!
Like I have said before lawsuits enough to break every city... Who would think this would happen at peaceful protest. Murder charges should be brought.
The police are trained to strike soft targets on a human body to avoid breaking bones or causing permanent damage. The stomach is one of the first strike zones the police are taught. It is a horrible tragedy that occurred, but a rational thinking person must realize that the officer didn't know that the woman was pregnant and was actually trying to minimize the harm inflicted.
That piece of police protocol is enlightening, and of course I agree that this tragedy was almost certainly not intentional. But I do disagree that the police officer was trying to minimize the harm inflicted, simply because I do not understand why peaceful protesters in America should be pushed around by cops.
I agree, the response from the police is more often than not, too much, but when they suit up to go to a civil disturbance, they are afraid of what can happen. They are only people and feel fear like everyone else. That fear drives some to over react which then starts to escalate and then others start getting out of hand. Civil disturbances are only second to domestic disturbances where the police are the most vulnerable to injury which puts them on edge.
Have you heard what Ray Lewis, the retired police chief form Philadelphia who was arrested on N-17, had to say about this? It was really interesting. He argued, just like you did, that the policemen are just people too, there is a lot of hostility directed towards them, and they're just as likely as you or me to lash out. Seems reasonable. Turns out there's protocol for this.
Ordinarily, he said, 'white shirts' are there at that critical moment, to prevent the 'blue shirts' (the normal beat cops) from letting their emotions get the best of them. At OWS, he noted, he observed a pattern he's never seen before—this is from an MSNBC interview that I found on YouTube—he saw the blue shirts acting calmly while the white shirts lashed out at protesters. If this is true, the role of police as peacekeepers at these events becomes very untenable.
Nonsense. Ms. Fox repeatedly informed the police she was pregnant, and simply wanted to leave the area. Apparently, the moron cop took that as a threat. Perhaps the police academy didn't inform him that a preganant woman stores her fetus in her abdominal area.
Just goes to show you how stupid these Occupy people are.
Why was a pregnant woman even at one of these events? What a horrible woman. She has no respect or sense of safety for her own child. You Seattle people are nuts.
Why was a pregnant woman even at one of these events?
Stupid woman - she did not even know that she lived in a police state
do you?
I concur with your U$A = Police State analysis but are you suggesting that pregnancy is an illness or disability ? Why are you calling her "stupid" ? Do you think 'Ben' would approve ? ad iudicium ...
