  1. "The Big Con, " by Jonathan Chait

  2. "The Conscience of a Liberal," by Paul Krugman

  3. "Kingdom Coming," by Michelle Goldberg

  4. "All the Devils are Here," by Bethany McLean and Joe Nocera

  5. "Goodbye to All That, Reflections of a GOP Operative Who Left the Cult," by Mike Lofgren. This was published as a confessional online and is one of the most illuminating pieces of insight into the right that I have come across. You can find it at: http://www.truth-out.org/goodbye-all-reflections-gop-operative-who-left-cult/1314907779

  6. "Boomerang," by Michael Lewis

  7. "Republican Gomorrah: Inside the Movement that Shattered the Party," by Max Blumenthal

  8. "Covert Operations, The billionaire brothers who are waging a war against Obama," by Jane Mayer. This is a New Yorker piece and can be found at: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2010/08/30/100830fa_fact_mayer

Of all of these, the most important single read, by far, is "The Big Con." Anyone who is proficient in that book will understand the forces that oppose change and the arguments that must be employed to overcome them. Krugman's book, "The Conscience of a Liberal," contains a history of "The Great Compression" which traces how America developed a middle class and what changes must occur for us to regain one. Buy copies of these two books (they're available used on Amazon) and give them out to anyone who can read.
