  • You can do this many ways.

  • Avoid spending at WalMart and other businesses that produce vast wealth at the top at the expense of those who work at their retail outlets, and at the expense of the small mom & pop stores that go out of business wherever WalMarts pop up.

There has to be a better way then promoting not shopping at one place or another. I don't shop at Walmart, but don't owners protect their profits by letting workers go? Walmart has gotten all kinds of bad press, yet it just keeps growing.

"""""Walmart has gotten all kinds of bad press, yet it just keeps growing."""""

That is because many Americans still understand personal freedoms and the free market. WalMart is a PRIVATE business, free (somewhat yet until Liberalism totally changes that) to do what they want to bring products to the public in a way the public most desires. That is FREEDOM. If they want to pay women less, women have a right to tell them to kiss off and not work there. If employees feel they are more valuable to the company than what the company is paying them, they have the PERSONAL FREEDOM to not work there. Many Americans still understand and appreciate that. That is why it "continues to grow"!

That was not my point, yes we live in a capitalist society, and corporations are free to do what they want within our current laws. Toynbee wishes to protest Walmart, also a right. I was of the opinion that by not buying things there he/she would only hurt the employees, not the corporation.

It's simple common sense, if sales go down you lay off the excess people. You more or less point this out by reminding us that Walmart is well within it's rights to make it's profit. By law they have a responsibility to their stockholders to turn a profit. This kind of protest is useless or counter productive.

Sorry. My reply wasn't meant to be directed to you. It was meant for the Socialist Liberal drone-minded Toynbee.

I agree! The first thing I did was stop shopping at walmart (though they probably don't miss me) They represent everything we DO NOT want in our world. I believe we CAN rebuild this country. I believe our consumerism has tremendous power to affect the world and we must learn to use this power responsibly. That is why the second thing I did was sit down and TALK to my children. We discussed how EVERYTHING we buy comes from a limited supply of natural resources. We discussed how some companies, like walmart, treat their workers poorly in order to sell things cheaper, to US! And why it is so important to ask ourselves if we really, really, really need something before we buy it.

I myself will continue to shop at Wilmar because their prices are reasonable and their employees do a pretty good job for being "mistreated". How much do you think a person's time is worth for stocking shelves, ringing registers, and telling people where things belong? They seem to have very sufficient staff while paying the employees what they currently pay them. SO why should they pay them more? Out of charity. Why don't you start a business and hire someone for more than what someone else will do the job for, and very well? Small "mom & pop" stores can adapt and still be very successful by "specializing" and being absolute experts about what they sell. For MANY, that is the preferred type place to shop, especially the "wealthy" as you call them.

you can change walmarts behavior, by picketing their stores, blocking street entrance's until they do what you you demand. Basic Blockading

This booklet contains just some of the ideas that have been tried. The principle of 'locking on' is the basis for most medium term occupations, and the possibilities are only limited by your imagination. But it's always worth considering the following- http://tinyurl.com/6lkzgbk

I can see that's going to be a big hit with all the Walmart shoppers shoving past you to get their bargains.

Hopefully yes, and many times worse. The whole world will see that the American people, love things far more then each other. Capitalism has changed a once great people- who loved and cared for one another, into greedy little bastards who love things and will stomp over one another to get the things they love so dearly. http://tinyurl.com/6lkzgbk

You don't see that as self defeating? You attempt to stop people from doing what they want. At best sales drop a little and a couple of part timers get their hours cut to make up for lost sales. Everyone working at the store or trying to get past you becomes antagonistic toward your cause.
