Hello All!!

If you are in the DC area this weekend, on Sunday November 6th at 2pm, thousands of people will gather to hold hands around the White House in opposition to the new Keystone XL 1,700 mile long pipe line that would stretch from Canada to Texas. This pipeline would be built over the Ogallala Aquifer which supplies fresh water to the plains.

This pipeline would assuredly poison even more of our precious and dwindling clean water supply. A Keystone XL pipeline which was recently built was supposed to break only once in 7 years. The pipe broke 12 times last year alone.

If you are in DC this weekend meet at the White House at 2pm!

So now this is an environmental movement? I'm so confused.

[-] 1 points by HarryCrew07 (433) 13 years ago

Its not an environmental movement per se, however, for the individual it can really represent an assortment of ideologies. But since people use this forum space to bash people and call everyone idiots, I decided it couldn't hurt to advertise this part of the movement. Not everyone in the movement will agree that environmentalism is important, however, for those who do, this is an avenue that the people can take together to oppose a very dangerous pipeline that has the potential to poison the entire water supply for the plains. That isn't good for anyone.

a pipeline? NO!

that would create jobs and help to get some out of debt. and maybe even more jobs to find ways to eliminate the contamination. I say NO pipeline NO jobs. lets just buy our oil from iran. they need the money for.. something or another, I'm sure whatever it is will make the world a better place

Don't worry! Unemployment is characteristic of market environments. We have greed and corruption yes, but unemployment is necessary for the functioning of a healthy market.

There are plenty of other ways to find jobs that don't include building a huge pipeline across a fresh-water aquifer which supplies water to the entire plains region. This is simply being pushed for now because people want jobs so bad they are willing to risk polluting our entire food system.

I do however like your suggestions of more jobs to fix the contamination :) I really do support job creation, but I support more infrastructure maintenance, fixing what we already have, or jobs created finding alternatives to the oil supply. These could provide jobs too. But since the world agenda is about making money, and money is in oil, this is where the jobs could potentially be right now. But, I truly can't blame you for thinking about right now and the job market.

Are union supporting this? Is this part of OWS

[-] 1 points by HarryCrew07 (433) 13 years ago

Unions that wish to support it will. Its been advertised across a plethora of venues, so its hard to tell who will show up. It can be considered part of OWS because it was inspired from the same gumption, but it does not speak for all of OWS, as there are members of OWS who would not wish to worry about environmentalism right now.

everything is part of the OWS!

[-] 1 points by OWSisawaste (133) 13 years ago

The OWS is just a bunch of greeny treehuggers taht want to be in politics and try to "change the world" .................crap

[-] 1 points by HarryCrew07 (433) 13 years ago

Its not all greeny treehuggers. But it isn't really unreasonable to think about the future. Plan ahead so that people in 50 years don't have to worry about all the pollution they can't do anything about anymore. Really, I am worried about the water supply. There is only so much fresh water, and more and more of it is contaminated every day.

There is zero chance that law enforcement will allow protesters to encircle the White House.

[-] 1 points by HarryCrew07 (433) 13 years ago

I know! Its never been tried before. You should come and see if it works anyway!!

[-] 1 points by TechJunkie (3029) from Miami Beach, FL 13 years ago

To watch you get arrested?

[-] 1 points by HarryCrew07 (433) 13 years ago

no, to get arrested yourself!! Anyway, as far as things go, the White House knows about this and has not at this point made claims that it will arrest anyone, as long as it is safe. So things may go wrong, but that is true anywhere. They aren't going to let us inside the gates, so they will have plenty of protection between the protestors and the White House.

The rules for protests around the White House are pretty clear. Nothing is going to change to allow this. Go ahead and try and you'll get arrested. And for what?

[-] 1 points by HarryCrew07 (433) 13 years ago

Well, I just read the rules, and it doesnt actually seem like its going to be a problem. We aren't going to be carrying any signs, which is most of the problem. Can you send me a link to the rules you are talking about so I can make sure that I read the right ones? Thanks!

[-] 1 points by HarryCrew07 (433) 13 years ago

For the same or similar reasons as most people who get arrested.

[-] 1 points by TechJunkie (3029) from Miami Beach, FL 13 years ago

...because they're committing crimes, you mean? Maybe you should try encircling the Pentagon next.

[-] 1 points by HarryCrew07 (433) 13 years ago

yes, for breaking laws. Thats pretty much the reason people get arrested. So what if its a law that says you have to be moving if you are carrying a sign. Plus, as I said, I just looked up the laws and I really don't think it is going to be a problem.
