Help craft the language for a meaningful 28th Amendment to The Constitution. The idea is this:
For the purpose of electoral politics; money and speech are not equal. The principle of one man, one voice is the guiding principle that drives our elections and money unfairly multiplies the voice of one man. Therefore the use of money and wealth in electoral politics may be fairly regulated by law.
The president HAS no role in passing a Constitutional amendment. We should all educate ourselves on the process.
And we should welcome the teaparty as allies.
Where can I locate a copy of the amendment... Oops... the website you posted previously?
The amendment has already been drafted.
Ah man I have been trying to find a good reason to join this movement. I strongly feel we need and evolution (Not revolution) in this country. I have been here all day trying to find one strong idea I can rally behind and this is the one. The problem is that you used hate speech in your post. "Tea-baggers" (Though I am not one) do not deserve hate speech from you. After all you wouldn’t stand for it coming from them.
As a conservative I don't support all OWS stands for but it is time we band together and drop our petty differences and unite this country for change. I however, can't be a part of any hate speech or name calling. Too bad really.
OK... you're right... That was a little snotty on my part. But I would like to see this idea move forward and I'll accept your advice on language in the future. Stick around .
As to the language I've stuck out there... I wonder if it would work as written?
It sure is a great place to start. A little ambiguous I think. But I am sure some lawyer could take it and make it bulletproof. Or at least I would hope so.
As someone who entered this thinking much along similar lines, I'd suggest that you do a little more research into the origin of this "movement" and what it really is.
Not to get all "Glen Beck" on you (lol) but there's a lot more to the OWS protest than a bunch of kids in the park. It grew directly out of an effort intended to turn people out that was lead by Adbusters and Kalle Lasn, a Spanish anarchist group, Anonymous, and some other similar groups.
Actually, there are demands/objectives and the "kids in the park" thing largely is stage dresssing. Far from a "spontaneous" assembly as it's generally reflected in the popular media, this is just one part of a decentralized but coordinated effort that has been very well orchestrated from the start and much planning by the groups involved. They include the anarchists-type groups above, other radical groups on the left, activists like Steve Lerner who have been promoting the "Days of Rage" movement for a long time, less radical, more mainstream union groups, etc., etc., all of whom have been planning this specific protest long before it happened. If you don't know who these groups are then you should go look. And, again, it's not like it's some big secret conspiracy that they're hiding. You can go to their respective web sites, blogs, forums, etc., and see exactly what they're all about and that is in fact the case. It's just not been reflected in the popular media in a very accurate manner.
That will become more apparent as this continues. Beyond the OSW protest itself, it extends far beyond that to a whole range of protests that have been planned for October and beyond, as reflected in the "Global Day of Protest" today. You don't think those mass-produced Guy Fawkes masks just appear all around the world at the same time by magic do you? ; )
If you think this is some "spontaneous" movement related to cleaning up Wall Street, jobs, and money in Washington, etc., then you really should do more research regarding the origins of this "movement." And for the record, no, I'm not a conspiracy nut. I'm a hard-core independent without a distinct ideological focus which permits an objective, realistic view of all this, and who was a sympathetic supporter of this "movement" until I started to peek behind the curtain a little more. Not that there aren't real issues along the lines associated with the protests that need to be addressed, but this ain't that. It's more of an attempt to leverage that. Which is why I'm out.
Well I don't think that this just popped up with no real ideals. I just can’t seem to find one solid solitary goal that OWS wants. Basically all I am asking is what do they want and if they get it will they go home? If the Goal is one that I can support then I am all in. I am a disabled vet and have enough free time to occupy anything for as long as it takes. Though I have to admit NY gets mighty cold in the winter lol.
It came from a bunch of culture jammers and anarchists. What else would you expect as far as having well-defined goals? ; ) lol
Like I said, most of the goals are far beyond what some casually walking into this might appreciate. With respect to your evolution -vs- revolution point above, in the case of the former, then you're kind of in the wrong place. At least as far as those running the show. There are many others like you and me who walked in with kind of a different understanding as far as what it's all about. Which is why I responded to your post.
Well my motives may not be as casual as you state. Evolution is always better than Revolution. That point of view comes from all the combat tours me and my family endured and seeing what revolution turns into.
Yep. Like I said, I'm sympathetic on some issues but I'm not really into the whole create global anarchy and rebuild from there thing. ; ) Anyway, was just intended as an FYI given the tone of your first post. Do with it as you will.

How do we push this to the surface... First order of business, is probably language. What legalese does it need?
Sir, you have identified what should be THE main goal and objective of these protests. If OWS and the protestors don't achieve it , the chance of any meaningful reform happening is next to zero. The monied interests have taken over our political system and if the root problem is not dealt with nothing will change for very long.
very true
