Buy shares in big corporations, go to their meetings and demand to be heard. If you own stock you have a legal right to speak.

This is already done, stockholder meetings are always a riot of colorful characters. If you've never been to one it is definitely worth going.

[-] 1 points by stevemiller (1062) 13 years ago

me2 said it all. colorful characters? what? BS.

Which corporations? Not all corporations are bad. If we start just firing off at anything that's incorporated, then we don't have a message of repair, we're just throwing bricks at things we're mad at at random. Bank of America and CostCo have very different ways of doing business, for example.

[-] 2 points by Teacher (469) 13 years ago

Obviousl you'd have to do some research first. Protesting at a meeting of some random corporation would be silly.

[-] 1 points by willrosswriter (69) from Crystal Lake, IL 13 years ago

I know, but just in general we need to be sure we're rewarding good behavior as we punish bad.

Why am I telling you this, you're a teacher, lol.

[-] 1 points by Mooks (1985) 13 years ago

If you own shares, wouldn't you want the stock to perform well? Stocks perform well when corporations make money.

[-] 1 points by Teacher (469) 13 years ago

Buying them is your ticket into the meeting. To protest. So you can change the way the corporation does business or at least get your voice heard.

[-] 1 points by Mooks (1985) 13 years ago

Most of the things OWS would say are anti-business. What makes you think they will let take you seriously?

[-] 1 points by Teacher (469) 13 years ago

Stockholders = boss

[-] 1 points by stevemiller (1062) 13 years ago

Fairy tale. Pathetic nonsense.

[-] 0 points by Frankie (733) 13 years ago

Nope, a majority of stockholders = boss. There's that pesky democracy thing in action.

[-] 1 points by cmt (1195) from Tolland, CT 13 years ago

But many stockholders do not get to vote their shares, because they are in 401ks or mutual funds. Then the corporation gets to vote them and get the benefit of that power. They, in general, love CEO's to get raises. And raises. And raises. And raises.....

[-] 1 points by Teacher (469) 13 years ago

Its still an effective way to protest

[-] 1 points by Mooks (1985) 13 years ago

As a stock holder, you get 1 vote for every share you own. You don't necessarily have a right to speak at their corporate meeting.

[-] 1 points by Teacher (469) 13 years ago

Depending on the policy. BUT it is your ticket inside the building.

Ever here of a MIC CHECK!

[-] 1 points by cmt (1195) from Tolland, CT 13 years ago

Unless your stock is in a mutual fund or a 401k. Then the corporation that holds the stocks votes for their own benefit, not yours.

[-] 1 points by Mooks (1985) 13 years ago

And you pay them a annual expense fee on top of it. All the more reason for people to get educated and handle their own finances.

The original poster was suggesting buying a share of a company so you can go to the meetings and speak out against the company.

[-] 1 points by cmt (1195) from Tolland, CT 13 years ago

I sometimes find it hard to track a thread all the way back to the beginning. Thanks for the clarification.

[-] 0 points by Frankie (733) 13 years ago

Somewhat maybe. Assuiming that you actually have some coherent message beyond that they're bad because they're capitalistic. Also, you do realize that, although it may be new to a bunch of kids, most of what you'd be complaining about really isn't anything new? e.g., CEO pay differentials, environmental and other worker issues, etc.

A better approach would be to occupy a sit-down meeting with some of the larger shareholders and other corporate activists types who have been working similar issues for many years. But that's much too mature of an approach for a bunch of kids who just want to raise hell and play radicals.

Oh, and just because you own a few shares doesn't mean that they can't kick your ass out for being disruptive.

[-] 1 points by Teacher (469) 13 years ago

Perhaps. However, there are those who are actually goal oriented and serious

[-] 0 points by steven2002 (363) 13 years ago

Forget buying stock. occpuy the buildings, let them know we are on to them. hat's the worst that can happen? you get arrested? That's not going to happen. Take over it's your only hope.

[-] 1 points by stevemiller (1062) 13 years ago

The plot for class warfare.

[-] 1 points by Teacher (469) 13 years ago

You would get arrested. But they can't shut you up if you own a single share

[-] 0 points by steven2002 (363) 13 years ago

Yes they can, they can fail to recognize you. You need to storm the share holder meeting. You need to be prepare to give up your own freedom for the cause. Stop being wimps and put it all on the line.

[-] 1 points by Teacher (469) 13 years ago

The share you own is your ticket into the building. You can't force your way past security without using violence and that cannot be justified.

[-] 0 points by steven2002 (363) 13 years ago

Violence is justified when the end justifies the means. Do you want to hold shares in these pig company's? Stop being wimps and stand up for what you believe.

[-] 1 points by Teacher (469) 13 years ago

An end that requires unjust means is not a just end.

[-] 0 points by Joeschmoe1000 (270) 13 years ago

What are the end?

[-] -1 points by YuckFouHippies (189) 13 years ago

This is a silly idea. First, you'd need to amass enough shares to have your vote matter. Second, nobody's going to listen to an OWS message at a shareholder meeting. The point there is to make decisions that help shareholders make ROI. Shareholders approve the big pay for CEOs, not the CEOs. If the company performs, shareholders have no issue agreeing to fat stock incentives.

[-] -1 points by stevemiller (1062) 13 years ago

Corzine/MF Global ripped off customer funds. II

CNBC broadcasters reported that the CME Group is searching for $600,000,000 that vanished from customer segregated accounts that no one except Corzine had the power to rip off unless Corzine specifically involved other people. CNBC broadcasters actually believe that the $600,000,000 might be hiding someplace and might magically reappear from its hiding place. Also CNBC reported that the Obama appointed commissioner of the CFTC, Gary Gensler recused himself (after he spoke with Corzine) from his own job.

This will be the same as the NYC Judge and DA who protected Strauss-Kahn from a trial for raping the black hotel maid. They are going to protect ex NJ governor, ex US Senator, ex Goldman Sachs colleague Corzine from being arrested for his crime. If OWS sitting in the park near Wall Street (as if being blocks away from Wall Street gives them some knowledge) had any idea of why they are protesting, they would be screaming about the Corzine $600,000,000 crime and his privileged status by the FBI.

America has become a nation of dolts in a trance. The most powerful American leaders and their shills reporting on TV are ignorant crooks. Go back and read prior SCREWED AGAIN reporting about the CFTC and CME Group as it concerns the PIMCO fraud. The OWS protest actually believe that sitting and freezing on the ground in the park will magically force a happy ending for the misery of 50,000,000 Americans whose work is now being done by Chinese slaves. The 50,000,000 Americans have been told by the privileged to go back to school and learn a new occupation so they can return to the middle class life they had enjoyed.

[-] 3 points by Teacher (469) 13 years ago

copypasta with sauce?

[-] 2 points by happybanker (766) 13 years ago

Steve, please give it up. We know you asked OWS to let you come and give a speech. We know they told you no. We know you want to run for Congress. We know it already, man. Give it up.

[-] 1 points by April (3196) 13 years ago

Awwwww! Why you make fun of Steve?? Pooor Steve. I feel bad for Steve. I've been trying to get the NYCGA to do something too. But it never does! Whats wrong with this picture?!

[-] 2 points by happybanker (766) 13 years ago

That's double twinkle fingers up to you my friend! They can't stop the twinkle fingers!!

[-] 0 points by stevemiller (1062) 13 years ago

OWS are weird people who have delusions that a petition will stop the bribes. Sitting in the park will stop the bribes.

There is no end in sight. If there were a small group of rational people who want a realistic strategy that will end the bribes there would be a possibility they would ask their colleagues to adapt to reality. OWS could be a 70% majority if they would choose leaders to win the 2012 election

Fix the bribes, stoop the wars, prosecute Bush for 9/11, and legalize and tax pot. That is the only solution. There can be no other. They want to sulk and whine. To watch this is agonizing. Its a bottomless pit of stupidity and delusions.

[-] 1 points by April (3196) 13 years ago

I actually agree partially. Anarchy is a little agonizing. Because the solution is so simple. To get the money out of politics. Not so simple to implement. But I'm a Buddy Roemer supporter. That's a little agonizing too, because he can't even get into the debates yet. But, I'm not too worried about it. Maybe that's delusional too. All I know is that when the anarchy gets me down, I just go get a Buddy fix. And I feel better again!

[-] 1 points by stevemiller (1062) 13 years ago

Buddy can't be nominated. That shows you are ignorant about politics. You may be brilliant other things, I don't know. A Buddy fix is irrational.

[-] 1 points by April (3196) 13 years ago

I know! You're right! Call me Crazy! I'm here too. And so are you. So there ya go! I'll even read your blog.
How come you think Buddy can't be nominated? Aside from the obvious. I realize the RNC machine will not support him. I don't really want them to. Afterall, they trotted out Rick Perry and Herman Cain. Who wants to be part of that bunch anyway?! Embarrassing. But maybe he can be a write in or something. If not, I'm hoping he can at least help to move the debate a little.

[-] 1 points by stevemiller (1062) 13 years ago

Wake up. This ain't no joke. Your thoughts are nonsense. Americans want everything to be a joke.

Joe Paterno proves Americans are creeps read more -- http://overthecoals.blogspot.com/

Joe Paterno allowed a kid to be molested. When a kid is being molested you don't report it to a college president, you report it to law enforcement. For law enforcement to now protect Joe Paterno from the same justice they are pursuing with all of Paterno's staff involved in the molesting incident because Paterno won or lost football games proves that the American people are nasty, stupid, and ignorant creeps.

The fact that the American people allow the entire government to be bribed on the record because they call bribes "campaign finance" is glaring proof that Americans are irrational. They laugh at the jokes by SNL, Jon Stewart, and Steven Colbert while they ignore the reality of those jokes.

Casey Anthony alleged being molested by her father but the Florida State Attorney refuses to prosecute George. George Anthony on the witness stand gave evasive answers when he was confronted for molesting Casey but he isn't being prosecuted for perjury either.

The Florida State Attorney knew that their evidence of the duct tape was rearranged by them for their attempt to execute -- murder -- an innocent woman who was the victim of her father's molesting. Only creeps do that. Then the media lied every day to convince their vast audience that Casey murdered Caylee. Only creeps do that.

[-] 1 points by April (3196) 13 years ago

You say OWS'ers are weird. Maybe you're the one thats weird. You say my thoughts are nonsense. Maybe you're thoughts are nonsense. You complain that people won't listen to you. Maybe that's because you don't listen to them. A conversation is a two way street. But you don't seem to want a conversation. You just want to give your speech without listening to others. What makes you such an expert that we should all just listen to you and follow your thoughts and ideas?

[-] 1 points by stevemiller (1062) 13 years ago

Yesterday I was in the park listening to ridiculous nonsense. You have no idea what I listen to beside the crazy stuff from you and others on this forum. I've been listening to C-span for more the 2 decades learning what the most prominent, powerful people think. They spill their guts out on C-span.

An Informed, Reasoned Solution for America’s Economic Disaster

By Steve Miller

The trade policy begun by President Clinton when he passed the NAFTA treaties started the giant sucking sound predicted by H. Ross Perot during the 1992 election campaign. America has been sold out by the ruse named globalization. We Americans are constantly reminded that globalization is a fact of life and that we need to adapt to the competition of slave labor in China and other dictatorships that force their citizens into slavery.
The only remedy that can possibly work to reverse our own economic destruction is the formation of a new third party that will represent the 99% of American citizens who aren’t CEO’s and Board members of the multinational companies that have outsourced our jobs to slaves. There must be class warfare to reverse the class warfare used to create the globalization ruse. Americans have been completely bamboozled by the media propaganda that peddles globalization.
“Free Trade” is a slogan for slave trade. The obvious, simple solution that would fix the economic depression gripping America is to forbid the importation of slave made products from China or any other country. The effort required to manufacture those products domestically using an American workforce would require a construction boom necessary to build new factories equipped by the most modern machinery that would hire millions of construction workers.
[-] 1 points by April (3196) 13 years ago

There is certainly some truth to this. And I understand your frustration. And I believe our political system needs to be changed. But I think that getting the money out of it would open the process up so that more independent candidates would have the opportunity to enter. And that getting the money out would lead to opportunities for other parties to form and have better access in the process.

[-] 1 points by stevemiller (1062) 13 years ago

April it BRIBES not money. Bribes are crimes. Money isn't a crime. You are in a trance or you would write BRIBE.

[-] 1 points by stevemiller (1062) 13 years ago

April the BRIBES won't stop until a 3rd party congressional candidate like me is elected. Sending letters to crooks is stupid.

You put the cart before the horse. That can't work.

When people make ridiculous statements to me they insult my intelligence. I'm expected to be courteous to every insult.

[-] 0 points by stevemiller (1062) 13 years ago

To be honest I'm sick of it too. There's one other guy spamming walls of text and I mentioned it to him yesterday as well. Modest capitalist or something.

[-] 0 points by stevemiller (1062) 13 years ago

All these people around the world read my blog today because they appreciate my observations of the criminals who are taking all of you for a nasty ride. Not to mention the slaves they have in China that are forced to work non stop and you American morons keep choosing the same criminals taking bribes and lying. Obama is the #1 liar who takes $38,000 bribes to fix their law.

OWS believes its all legal. OWS is convinced if they sit in the park the crooks in congress will quit their crimes. They aren't going to prosecute themselves OWS fools. Its a bottomless pit of simple stupidity. OWS people are so arrogant that they prefer losing forever while they whine in the park.

Look at how many people from around the world want to know that all the OWS people are irrational, delusional mental cases who protect their abusers like young girls protect their fathers' sexual molestations.

The Florida State Prosecutor has refused responding to the criminal complaint against George Anthony for molesting Casey since she was 8 years old. The media lied every day to convince the entire country that Casey murdered her daughter even though she didn't. The poor woman was conditioned to keep her mouth shut about being the sex slave in her home for George.

These are the real Americans. They are arrogant hypocrites who refuse any evidence or facts that contradict their ridiculous notions.

I will be in the park today at 1 PM. If you people will listen to me instead of Glenn Greenwald who will be speaking for 2 hours we will win the protest.

If you read my blog its way better than Glenn's. He's just hustling books while he lives in Brazil. I live in CT. I want America fixed because I live here.

I will listen to Glenn at 6PM at 60 Wall Street. Maybe I'll get a chance. Your interest is my interest. If you want to fuck yourself you will fuck me too. That's a simple fact. Get it?
