Occupy Wall Street/Santa Barbara took to the streets on Saturday with a rally in De La Guerra Plaza followed by an unusual march.
The march started up State Street, but made notable diversions to stop by local branches of banks that had been bailed out: Wells Fargo and Chase.
Marchers chanted "Banks got bailed out, we got sold out!" As they got to the banks, they gathered at the entrance and chanted to customers "Close your accounts!"
Many in the crowd were working people whose lives have been wrecked by the economic crises in recent years. They lost jobs, health care and/or homes. They wonder why government is able to bail out the banks and Wall Street, but not fund projects to put ordinary people back to work.
Many held signs saying "We are the 99%" in contrast with the top 1% who have benefited from pro-big business policies.
One sign read "They only call it Class Warfare when We Fight Back!"
Occupy Wall Street/Santa Barbara will continue to meet in De La Guerra Plaza to plan future strategy and actions.
