There's a fair number of people in America at present, most notably and vociferously, folks conducting business for big news media outlets, who want to know why the ‘Occupy’ protest or movement chooses not to define itself to their satisfaction, or within their own personal frame of reference. This all but mechanical thinking is understandable to me if one were seeking a purely logical explanation as to why there are individuals choosing to demonstrate across the U.S. with such steadfast resolution.

Oy. if you want to start a spiritual movement, go start a commune. Preferably not in a park surrounded by cops.
I'm afraid yours may be a view not widely shared around here.
The movement is undefined because the goal reaches beyond anything we have seen before. This requires a psychological shift from nationality to world plurality. When it reaches this point we will have critical mass and everything will change beyond our wildest dreams.
There's a simpler explanation as to why OWS won't take a definite position right now. If they lay their cards on the table now, it would give the powers that be plenty of time between now and the 2012 election to mount a strong defensive. Better to wait until closer to election time.
Agreed, and I particularly like the statement -- America is not, nor ever has been a nation under the rule of some wicked monarch or tyrannical dictator -- so perhaps you would consider our group's proposal of an alternative (or shadow) online direct democracy of government and business at http://getsatisfaction.com/americanselect/topics/on_strategically_weighted_policies_organizational_operating_structures_tactical_investment_procedures-448eo , for this is a small-business-bottom-up approach, not today's big-business-top-down approach, and if agreed, join our group's 20 members committed to that plan at http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/StrategicInternationalSystems/
To me it is very understandable
They are waiting to gather enough momentum and support so they will have some leverage and a voice that may not be agreed with, but will be heard
It is pretty clear to most of us that we have been sold out and robbed. Collusion between the government and huge corporations has all but destroyed America That’s why you see people of all ages and walks of life supporting this. The time to bargain will come! We need real change and jobs
I am just one among thousands that have lost pensions etc.
