Occupy Poem

My poem for the Occupy movement.
Eyes. Realize. Defy. Unite.
There is nothing more unforgiving than willful ignorance I’m watching this country drown in patriotism while spitting on intellect
Where did it all go wrong? When did ideology overtake science ology? When did there become two facts? Why do two opposing parties represent the same act?
Money Ah, the root of all evil The men in the lobby The slime in the ruin
The blind are doing Exactly as their masters are brewing Fighting each other over the same piece of pie The smallest piece, while the rich take delight A media smokescreen blocking basic human rights Then a right that threatens the most basic human right
Life
What is this obsession with an instrument designed to kill? What is this need, and why so much fear?
Land of the free and home of the brave? But not free of stray bullets And a gun means afraid
Cowards only We run like a nation of cowards Scared of a word, but not scared of a gun Scared of a breast, but so eager to shed blood
In a war for investment the winners make decisions The profits are in the billions But no newspaper will tell it
And sadly, we don’t demand it
Well, what would happen if we demand truth be said? What would happen if we used math to form facts? What would happen if we refused to buy? What would happen if we rise up tonight? What would happen if we were no longer afraid? What would happen if we quit our gods for one day? What would happen if we act like human beings? What would happen if we really became… “we?”
If you want real change don’t occupy a voting booth Occupy their homes, hold them hostage to the truth Target their money, target their strengths Target their enablers, stop them at the gates
Beat the message, hold the rallying cry Grow in numbers, ensure to hold the line Educate and inspire, take your country back Without one bullet fired, just a people stand intact

Moving. Thanks.
A forum post, not a poem. Still, it does establish truths.
