The difference in this situation is the police and whatever their orders where. Both protests where peaceful. Oakland only became violent when he police used violence.
I think when things like that happen people should sit down somewhere, out of harms way if possible and just sit... and point your fingers. stay sitting. harmless. no threat at all. shame shame shame
And if anyone damages property like in Oakland, protestors should gather around them -Sitting Down- pointing your fingers...
If you SIT DOWN and shame them, they will be exposed for the fringe that I believe they are. Cameras will have a better chance of identifying who they are too, for arrest.
I think you have a very unrealistic idea about how violent police confrontations play out. The cops are generally not trying to keep peace, and arrest wrong doers. If the have been instructed to shut down a protest they are going to commit violence and attempt to instigate it from others. They aren't worried who the "good protestors" and "bad protestors" are. They see only two sides: the Blue Team and everybody else. Being in a riot is very chaotic and confusing, and you should be very careful about participating in demonstration that may see arrests and police violence.
It would really help if they would stop using chemical weapons and riots gear against peaceful assemblies of people in sleeping bags---The kind of protest that ought to have no reasonable expectation of turning violent.
nods, yeah your probably right. purely wishful thinking on my part perhaps. I understand your point. sheesh. I wish the police and protestors would help eachother thats all. oxymoron i guess
This is everybody's game.
"You are one bounced check from being out here with us!" -OWS sign to the NYPD
Just came from Occupy Boston: "Be kind to the police; they're only one layoff away from us."
Absolutely, mutual respect is key, and cannot be over emphasized. It can only be under exercised. power to the peaceful
Nice! Good post
