Forum Post: Occupy in the winter?

The police and wall street are betting on the fact that this protest will end when it gets too cold out. They pointed out that one of the reasons the Arab Spring was so successful was that it took place in the Spring. This gave them plenty of nice weather to organize. It's time to plan how to continue the movement well into the winter. Any thoughts?

Winter: If you continue in winter and I presume you will go on though it, it is very taxing even with heaters and bonfires. I suggest you rotate people at you encampment so that everyone gets to rest indoors part of the time and still maintain a presence. You must take care of your people, conserve their energy. AD

They aren't just sitting around. Just by BEING there, they are raising awareness of how unacceptable the economic situation is and they are starting a dialogue amongst all the citizens of the country to try to make things right. We are in the age of information and old fashioned protests won't work anymore. This isn't something that can be solved overnight. As for the winter...take it to DC. It's warmer there and that's where the real problem is anyway. It is the responsibility of the government to protect the people's rights, one of which is the "pursuit of happiness." When you have to work two jobs to make ends meet, you're barely living, never mind pursuing happiness.

True, the protest will end when it gets cold, and although I'm all in favor of taking down today's ineffective and inefficient Top 10% Management Group of Business & Government, there's only one way to do it anyway – by fighting bankers as bankers yourselves. Consequently, I have posted the Strategic Legal Policies, Organizational Operating Structures, and Tactical Investment Procedures necessary to do this at:

Hahahahaha. I read the title as "Occupy the Winter." I thought this was going to be a joke post about occupying the cold season for it's unfair reign of coldness against the poor and freezing masses.

Unfortunately, I have nothing meaningful to add.

The "Arab Spring" or more specifically Egypt/Cairo, grew VERY quickly to 100,000 in the streets. Wall Street is within 20 miles of how many people? 15 million or so? What is the estimate of how many are with "Occupy" right now? very small number relatively, and it's not going to grow when it gets below 45....

You could do it with a "Valley Forge" mentality - look what happened when they held on through the winter.

I posted a while back about portable heaters. I was accused of trolling but whatever.

I think that if someone in the know could convert diesel heaters to biodiesel... it would be the least evil for the environment.

I think if temps are maintained at 30 degrees the occupation can continue

You guys cannot organize showers, bathrooms, and food now? Are you really thinking this group has any will power? Please...

In 1993 I was at a point where my life was a mess. I chatted with a wise man who asked me "do you make your bed every morning?" to which I answered, of course "no". He added "how do you expect to turn your life around if you can't even manage to make your bed every morning?". For 18 years I now make my bed EVERY morning, and now because my life has turned around I make my bed only 13 of 14 days because every 14th day the cleaning ladies make my bed.

your comment is one few will understand...but I do...

Why are you coming on here and being so negative? The chance of you being in the 1% is 99 to 1, so I highly doubt you are... We are fighting for you and your rights... How can you be so negative?

[-] 1 points by teddyr (159) from Bronx, NY 13 years ago

I am not being negative at all. Just revealing the truth. Seriously, do you think this group will last in winter when they cannot even organize themselves in great weather. They are requesting people to do their laundry? Babies... the whole lot...

[-] 1 points by blairee (4) from Orlando, FL 13 years ago

Why don't you go out there then instead of being negative towards them? they are pretty damn organized in my opinion, for being outside for a couple weeks.. How would you last outside of your comfort zone? they are sacrificing all their personal comforts to fight for HUMANITY.. why don't you try to find ways to help them instead of bring them down?

[-] 1 points by teddyr (159) from Bronx, NY 13 years ago

Oh my, they have been OUTSIDE! Such horror! They are fighting for humanity? I am trying to help. Get a job. Buy clothes. Work towards a future. People sitting around is not helping anything.

[-] 1 points by Dowhatsright (2) 13 years ago

teddyr, love the part about OUTSIDE! such horror! blairee does not live in reality, she lives in a world where unicorns fart pixie dust!!! blairee really.....these 13 demands??? I like the one about get rid of ALL the debt and 20 dollar minimum wage.....Well thats great buttttttt how will that help? you pay $1 now for a hamburger at McDonalds.....plan on paying $3 everthing will go up. This is also funny.why is it that your protesting against BIG Corporation and ALL their MONEY their holding onto.....But at the protest you see all these people with IPhones, IPads, facebooking, tweeting,ect..... Hey blairee how do you think these company's got ALL this MONEY......Cause YOU protestors bought their stuff......And your mad at them!!!!!! Here's who you should be protesting....The White House and The President! Remember who gave GM, AIG a bailout???? BILLIONS of our tax dollars....then they paid off their Union Pensions and payed MILLIONS in bonus to their Execs...why do you think the Unions have got involved?? Hmmmm! Also GM just paid its employees a 5000 dollar bonus this year....Great! But they STILL OWE Billions in bail out money!!!!! So WHY isnt the Obama administration throughing a big pissy fit???? Maybe for some votes???? Blairee if your going to protest do it to stop the war!!!! Thats anothor debate......why hasnt he stopped the war when he was SO against it?????

[-] 1 points by blairee (4) from Orlando, FL 13 years ago

Why are you so condescending? It's really uncalled for.

We aren't protesting big corporations or rich people or technology... We are protesting the disgusting ways in which they got to where they are: at the expense of others.

Do you expect protesters to make their own cell phones? Be REALISTIC.

People are just waking up - the changes will come, but slowly. The world did not get fucked up in one month or week or even a year, and it won't change that quickly.

I absolutely believe this movement will continue into the winter and I support it continuing until change comes.

This movement will not stop until there is change, and if your negativity won't change, that's your problem, not mine.

In solidarity.

I think it should continue in the winter. I know that's hard because I can't be there right now, and I might not be able to physically join them. But whether people organize or not, the movement needs to continue. If it takes time to wake up the country, then it will take time. But we need to keep it going.

[-] 1 points by teddyr (159) from Bronx, NY 13 years ago

Yes, I really hope it does last until winter. I need more entertainment when they are crying about how are they going to keep warm without buying from corporations.

[-] 1 points by LukeSurge (14) from Roanoke Rapids, NC 13 years ago

That's fine. You're unnecessary negativity qualms in the face of what others are fighting for. It will do nothing to hold us back. We are the entire country. We are everyone, and we will not be quiet any longer.

[-] 1 points by Dowhatsright (2) 13 years ago

LukeSurge, So We are the entire country??? So its your fault the 99%? How could 1% EF up a country so bad? Dont you guys vote? Better yet if 1% is running the country what does that say about the other 99%

[-] 1 points by LukeSurge (14) from Roanoke Rapids, NC 13 years ago

I was more commenting that this is for everyone's rights. This is an end to a long line of happenings. We need to stand now to stop it from getting worse. I did vote, and not anything got better did it? It's hard to expect a vote to change things when you have a choice of a select few, all as bad as the last one. It isn't up to one person, or 1%.
