On December, 6th we will be occupying the foreclosed home of someone close to us. We support everyone, everywhere who has been foreclosed on in such a rough economic time, and we ask anyone who is in the area to come help us support as well. All the information is listed here: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=117404821706836
During the Depression, distressed farms were sometimes sold at “Penny Auction” (forced auctions) in which farmers would assure that a distressed neighbor would be able to buy back his own farm by holding bids down to pennies, nickels, and quarters. They would dissuade those who wanted to make higher bids, sometimes symbolically with dangling nooses at the auction scene.
I don't understand this fascination with foreclosures. The banks got into trouble making bad loans, but the people foreclosed on were not forced at gun point to take out those loans. The activity of the banks was reckless, it endangered the financial system, leaning to bailouts and so on, all a different topic. The borrowers are not the good guys here either, and if you borrow foolishly you're part of the problem, not necessarily a victim.
