This is a huge breakthrough - a world first, I believe.

Edinburgh City councillors have voted to back the Occupy Edinburgh movement, which has been located in St Andrew Square since mid-October.

During the meeting, council leader Jenny Dawe said: “We do have a disgusting gap between rich and poor in our society and banking does need to be reformed".

Edward Coulson, who has been part of Occupy Edinburgh since its inception, said that "we’re happy that we have support for Occupy Edinburgh and support for the movement worldwide and recognition of the aims, which is a huge thing".

We are so proud of what OWS has done also. We know the people are behind you. We particular love how the war veterans have the protestors' backs. They have been screwed over also, and are sickened by the greedy banks. This movement is global and massive. It is leaderless and non-political.

That is what makes it so powerful, and so attractive to good people everywhere. No one likes what the banks have done, whether they be right wing or left wing, rich or poor, ugly or beautiful. We all know they are criminals. That is why they are going down.

Edinburgh is in the UK. Interesting but the American OWS are going to continue to get state resistance.

If Occupy sites in various US cities are recognised by Government officials, then there will be pressure on other cities also. OWS is the centre, and the one we are all fighting for. However, there are Occupys all over the world and massive support for each of them. This movement has legs. I am confident that a lot more protests will be recognised. This movement is not going to fizzle out. The banks had better watch out!

I hope so because I will be there. I loved my local occupy. There was food, coffee, water and extra blankets. That is how freedom works. Love can support everyone everywhere but when the power of the people is given to the government we only get corruption and hate.

Exactly. We are camped right outside the world HQ of the RBS Bank. They have provided three extra security guards to keep an eye on us. We are delighted about that, as three extra men now have a job! :)

Those security guards at a bank that should be bankrupt do not deserve their job.

They are small fish. Its OK. The bank is wasting its (our) money as usual. The RBS bank was bailed out by the taxpaper for 45 billion pounds, representing 50 pence per share (It was nearly 19 pounds at its peak). The shares are now worth 19 pence per share. I don't recommend banks as an investment.
