Bewildering story here, if I say so myself!

Drummers at #OccupyWallSt are demanding $8,000, according to the NYCGA minutes. They have been playing 2 hours a day.

The drummers reason that "we no longer have the materials to support ourselves. But if you feel that we need to support ourselves think about how hypocritical you are being. We are here to support each other."

People are dumb for bringing such expensive equipment to a park. When their is much uncertainty about what may happen to it. This and overly expensive laptops.

Come on people show some common sense.Seriously you people are not helping the cause by making dumb financial decisions with your belongings.

do drums that cost $5k really exist? no really.

[-] 1 points by anotherone773 (734) from Carlyle, IL 13 years ago

I looked and i cannot find a $5000 drum anywhere. Most handmade drums i found range from $40-$200. A few touch $1000 but that is a very few. I looked up drum sets as well mostly by Pearl. A few Ludwig sets. Most range from the upper hundreds to a few thousand. Very few touch $5000.

Their is nothing i can think of that warrants bringing a piece of equipment that delicate and that ( supposedly) expensive to a protest in a park. Well besides stupidity anyway. Deserves to take a loss on it for being stupid IMO.

Why are the drummers more entitled than the rest of the protestors?

[-] 2 points by Fredone (234) 13 years ago

sudoname is a troll, I have seen him elsewhere on this site trolling. I read the minutes, and nowhere did the drummers ask for money as the OP implies. Nor were they given any.

Hmm.. please point this out to me. I would love to know where I was trolling.

Why is OWS entitled to spend our donation dollars with zero public accountability?

[-] 1 points by Fredone (234) 13 years ago

They are not. The GA has to approve anything above a certain amount, something like $100. Plus there are records being kept of the other spending, all receipts are retained and filed and can be reviewed at request. They might post them on the web at some point but there really is not point in that. .

[-] 1 points by sudoname (1001) from Berkeley, CA 13 years ago

No point in telling people where their money is going?

[-] 1 points by sudoname (1001) from Berkeley, CA 13 years ago

They need accountability, especially if we're asking for that from our lawmakers.

they aren't your dollars at all dumb shit!

[-] 1 points by jbell78 (152) 13 years ago

I donated money, did you?

[-] 1 points by moediggity (646) from Houston, TX 13 years ago

sure you did...sure you did...

People who play music at political rallies either do it free, or take a hike. What's Pete Seegar charging? Tell them to get real or get lost.

misappropriation.

[-] 1 points by Yepper (277) 13 years ago

Is there any accounting posted of all this money. There are many rumors it has been stolen. On post said the donate button was re assigned to someones person account????

This WHOLE THREAD is divisive. Why are you guys indulging in petty bickering with EACH OTHER? Seriously? Is this what our movement's about? People bickering, squabbling, and insulting each other? DO SOMETHING CONSTRUCTIVE. Help with the newspaper, organize supplies. Help each other. Sheesh.

Get it together

[-] 1 points by Fredone (234) 13 years ago

This is an interesting thread. Almost all trolls/shills or brainwashed minions for the 1%, and posted by one too. I repeat, what is being implied by the OP is totally false, I just read the minutes.

Anyway, remember people: the 1% shills can easily post more than their numbers. It gives a totally false impression of which sort of people are present and what the community things. Number of posts with a certain viewpoint means absolutely nothing in this type of situation.

[-] 1 points by precipice (220) 13 years ago

... well. the drummers are sorta... corrupt.

[-] 1 points by pissedoffconstructionworker (602) 13 years ago

8000$???

These clowns are lucky if they escape without being beaten about the head and shoulders as they deserve.

[-] 1 points by dankpoet (425) 13 years ago

I read the minutes and you are completely mis-characterizing this request as there is no demand anywhere. A failure to reach consensus in twenty minutes for a large GA is in no way indicative of a fractured movement. Thanks for the misinformation.

[-] 1 points by precipice (220) 13 years ago

See for yourself.
Click on the minutes link and search up "8000." It's at the end of the minutes. you can't make this stuff up! Here's the quote about the fracture:

Elijah: With the drum circle, the drum working class. We have worked for you. We will remove ourselves and earn as we did. And when you realize what happens when we remove ourselves, you will come to us and appreciate what we are doing.

It's likely drummers will continue to lobby for the $8k, but the speaker Elijah from the minutes sounds like he is withdrawing from the movement.

[-] 1 points by dankpoet (425) 13 years ago

I did. You are referring to drummers considering removing themselves from the park not the movement.

[-] 1 points by jbell78 (152) 13 years ago

$8,000 for drumming?

This is EXACTLY why I started this thread: http://occupywallst.org/forum/why-is-there-not-a-transparent-finance-section-on-/

Transparency about donation usage is not an option!

Those drummers should leave.

Start at 34.4.2. This is a true post.

Yep true story

Only the more equal members of the OWS party get to reap all of the wealth ($300,000+). They have decided it would be better spent for a nice apartment in the financial district for 6 of the more equal people within the group.

capitalist pigs! working for what a month without a day off thats 60 hours each, 5 people, 8k is that $27/hour? where are the benefits? what about pension? drum for life!

[-] -1 points by YuckFouHippies (189) 13 years ago

Hahahahahaha. "we are 99% drum free"! This is exactly why these people haven't gotten ahead in life. Poor financial decisions.
