I am asking this because I believed that this movement would not go into politics officially.
I don't think a political party is the right direction here. Proposing policy and building popular support would work better. It's really easy to dismiss third parties. Especially ones without huge corporate donors.
I think we need to address some structural change. The current system is corrupt and the politicians have to sell their soul to the devil to even get on the ticket. For decades now the corporations and special interests have had our "representatives" bought and paid for (both on the right and the left). Don't get distracted by the symptoms - we need to address the root cause. Concentrating our efforts on getting the money out of our politics is the best way we can create an environment in which further reforms can be realized. Until we end the current system of legalized bribery (campaign donations) and paid lobbying our politicians will continue to be the LAP DOGS of the corporations and special interests. What we need first and foremost is real, loop-hole free CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM!!!! If the corruption is not dealt with first, the chance of any other meaningful reforms becoming a reality is almost zero - the special interests will just use their money to buy votes and put forward bills that create loop-holes or otherwise twist the law in their favor. If we want our children to live in a country where there vote matters, we need to get the money out of our politics, otherwise they will increasingly become the 21st century version of the "landless peasant." Spread the word - End the LEGALIZED BRIBERY!!! CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM needs to be THE main goal of the protests!!!
It not just that, we need reform our voting system. I saw a video on our First Passed The Post system, and the video for the alternative vote (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Y3jE3B8HsE) and this is definitely a better system. Until something like this is implemented. third parties will only help elect leaders we do not want in office
You are correct - the point of the campaign finance reform would be to create an environment where reforms like the one you identified have a chance of happening. Spread the word!!
The reason the occupation movement could never go into politics is simply that it doesn't have any policies. It's just a load of middle class white people inevitably realizing that liberal arts degrees don't entitle them to be wealthy, and now they are having a tantrum. This has gone on since time immemorial.
Even if that was the case, it feels horrible paying all that money to go to college and then find out that it's worth nothing, because the current situation does not allow for prosperity in field. And then those that were not fully covered (which could most of them) still have loans to pay off while the only jobs they can get are jobs that barely pay for rent. There's concerns about social programs being eliminated and all, which would make even poorer. They have legit concerns.
Liberal Arts - think about it. Maybe that is the only part of their education that actually stuck with them. A lot of moooola just to be a liberal.
