The federal government is cracking down yet again on medical marijuana, dispensaries have been given a 45 day notice to shutdown or the government will use force. Is this really where my tax dollars are going in these times of a great recession? going after medical patients of a next to harmless drug? More money for more prisons? Bailout wal street and attack sick people, that is the policy of this government.
After the medical marijuana dispensaries were set up, the murder rate in San Francisco and elsewhere in California "mysteriously" dropped by 50%. They had punched a hole in the artificial scarcity of the plant, reducing the profit for those fighting to control the illegal market. The consequence of this action is likely to be the doubling of the murder rate.
It is very important for pro- and anti-drug legalization believers to seek common ground against the gangs and cartels. It is not enough to advocate for an eventual end to the drug war - people need to boycott the illegal drug trade right now, and speak out against it. However curious people are, however harmless it may seem, we must not willingly hand over our cash to murderers.
We need to call for greater scrutiny against things like "simulated controlled substances" prohibitions, which protect the illegal drug market by guaranteeing that buyers in anonymous transactions have little fear that they'll get a fake drug. We need to question the practice of "trading up" from the street gang thug on the street to the source of supply, a policy intended to maximize the wholesale price of drugs and the profit made from smuggling them. We need to question practices which deliberately make it difficult for Americans to produce drugs while doing nothing to hinder the Mexican cartels - such as when cartels can have young kids smuggle in their drugs, who are simply sent back without punishment if caught, or when Americans with colds are forced to go and ask for pseudoephedrine from behind the pharmacy counter when it's open, while Mexicans freely import it and have taken over the marketplace, doubling the cartel profit.
Pro and anti drug, we need to all recognize we're being taken for fools by cartels who are laughing all the way to the bank, who seem to be the rulers of this country, or at least its drug policy.
The government condones the assassination of an American Citizen without affording him the protections of his right to due process as mandated in the 5th, 6th, and 14th amendments be dropping a bomb on his head while he resided in a foreign sovereign nation -- medicinal marijuana users should be so lucky if that's all the federal government tries to do.
I'm not convinced this is as meaningful an issue as it sounds. The U.S. should not be bombing Canadians abroad either, after all - saying we want special protections for American citizens makes it sound like we've declared everyone else fair game. The U.S., rightly or wrongly, has arranged, with some level of acceptance from the Yemen government, to use military force within their country. Whenever a military approach is taken rather than law enforcement it is all too likely innocent people will be harmed, whatever their nationality. Obama says the al-Qaida idiot was involved in high-level planning of violent attacks, not just saying bad things on videotape. I hope that is the truth...
In any case, we should certainly not try to link medical marijuana to al-Qaida. Medical marijuana is meant to oppose terroristic violence.
I'm not Hank Williams, Jr., so please don't misinterpret my analogy. :) I am not linking the two together other than to demonstrate where both are egregious violations of the constitution. On one hand, you have a corrupt government infringing on an individual's 5th, 6th, and 14th amendments to due process -- and on the other, you have a corrupt government's infringement on a state's and people's 9th and 10th amendment rights to self govern.
Well, due process was violated a few times during the Civil War also. I don't see realistically that you can persuade any government that people fighting it in a recognized military conflict deserve a full legal process during the battle. And I think those Canadians really do deserve whatever rights you give that American, should they turn up in the same situation.
The least fair thing you can do is to debate me by interpreting my opinion for me. for the record, I am very consistent in my beliefs and so I would make the same argument against any government that violated the constitution at any time -- in fact, I always do. I don't let emotions dictate my beliefs -- it's very black and white for me, so I agree - due process was violated many many times during the Civil War - you won't get an argument out of me.
While you "hope" that the administration is not lying about al-Awlaki's involvement in al-Qaeda - thus justifying their actions, I will continue to stand and argue against the government's actions against an American citizen - because whether or not the administration was truthful is not the point - they clearly violated his rights as an American citizen when they took his life.
As far as "not giving him due process in the heat of battle" -- what battle? All the government acted on was suspicion - no conviction. This was not a pressing matter. Bring him to the US and try him, and if you can't - then try him in abstentia. Convict him, and sentence him to death... once you have that, drop the bomb. until then, continue to pursue him and nothing more. That's a basic right outlined in the Bill of Rights.
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I have the impression the Yemen government doesn't really have the ability to go out in a few cop cruisers and arrest people from al-Qaida strongholds. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sa%27dah_insurgency for what I'm thinking of. My impression is that it's some kind of a war zone, and even a commando mission from the U.S. wouldn't be very safe - and might well end with them killing him in combat anyway. I'm not saying I like the idea of this killing, but I don't think it's a good thing to make a top issue.
The government of the United States kills an American citizen without giving him due process and that's not a top issue to you? I recognize the urgency for improving the economy, but it will never happen under this administration - and an impeachable offense is absolutely a great start to moving beyond this administration and into fixing the economy. This administration illegally killed an American citizen in a foreign country by dropping a bomb (act of hostility in a sovereign nation), and you don't see that as a top issue? Scary.
totally disgusted with that as well, even if he wasn't an American citizen why can't we capture and give people a trial? What happened to our constitution? Wouldn't him alive be better? If he is such a threat he must know things that would help us? Nope. The president is ready to become a dictator.
there is more to it than that, but yes i agree with that view as well. Prison building is one of the most profitable industries right now as well so the more prisoners the more prisons. Also pharmaceutical companies lose a lot of money because of medical marijuana. pharmaceutical companies are the most profitable corporations in the world, and that is why this is happening. But they do not have the resources or the money to take it down, it has become to big and if they crack down there will be HUGE resistance, there are over 700 dispensaries in california now, hundreds of thousands in the industry/over 200,000 patients in California alone. Its fine though this will just piss the people off more hopefully.
How can the CIA support its clandestine actions if it cannot be the leader in bringing illegal drugs into America. Stand up and demand our rights as citizens by calling for the decriminalization of marijuana and the freeing of the thousands of political prisoners whose only crime was making use of a natural substance to help them in the daily lives.
The Fraudulant Government is in business with the Mexican cartels, that's why they want to shut down the state dispensaries. Fast and Furious.
