Occupy Oakland Protesters Deposit Funds At Wells Fargo After Bank Attacks November 9, 2011 3:37 PM

OAKLAND (CBS/AP) — A group of Oakland anti-Wall Street protesters who blame large banks for the economic downturn have decided that one of those institutions is the best place to stash their money for now.

Protesters at an Occupy Oakland meeting Monday voted to deposit a $20,000 donation into a Wells Fargo account. The move comes just days after one of Wells Fargo’s branches was vandalized during a massive downtown demonstration.

An Occupy statement said the money only will be with Wells Fargo temporarily while they work to establish an account with a credit union or community bank. Protesters said it was the easiest way to access the money to bail out people from jail.

Wells Fargo spokesman Ruben Pulido said the move demonstrates that Occupy Oakland recognizes the value and service the bank provides its customers.

I love the Copyright at the end! It's just a matter of time before OWS has a CFO.

The copyright message comes from the site where this person copied the info. Funny how it says not to redistribute.

This site is already has posted saying 'we're not that website and we're not this website and that group isn't us.' well if you can't be OWS just by saying you are OWS, what makes someone OWS? so yeah, you are right its coming...

They may not know this... but unless that account is registered to a IRS Code Section 501(c)3 tax exempt organization somebody has to pay taxes on it. The bank already reported the money to the govt. because $20K is way over the minimum required to be reported.

The deposit was made by their lawyer, he most likely deposited it in his trust account. The money came from NY as I understand it and NY's money is under the umbrella of a 501(c)3

OWS is sounding more and more like a corporation. They have a lawyer...a 501(c)3... they must have accountants as well. Someone has to file with the IRS next year. The person signing the tax filing is their CFO!

thanks, hadn't seen it down in the threads. Every day I find it tougher to stand outside our camp with a sign. but we're small and more isolated. I hope that me going on the march to dc will improve my faith in what we're doing.

It's about to get ugly in Oakland again. I'm guessing after the GA vote tonight that they have anywhere from 0-48 hours until the next raid.

As long as you believe in your actions little else matters. Take a roll of duct tape with you - just in case. It really is the greatest tool of our time...

thanks for the heads up, Oneofmany. Ill keep my fingers crossed for oakland.
