Forum Post: Non Profit Investment Bank ?

Has anyone thrown out there the idea of creating a non profit investment bank? I mean the banking system as a whole enjoys a situation of monopoly - or oligopoly to be more precise. Investors seeking to fund some activity and companies who look for funding have to go through them, because they provide good credit guarantees (especially with the bail-outs). However the price the customers pay is far too high and money is taken from the true economy funding and given to investment banks. In a functioning capitalist world, competition should arise and financial margins go lower and lower, making the financial sector no more lucrative than any other. So why not create one ? Why not do what the banks do, for far less money? It's not that complicated after all...

investment bankers work 12 hour days for 6 to 7 days week.. well at least the junior bankers. would you be willing to work those hours at a non-profit salary?

I think they will make work rules, so no one needs (or can) work above and beyond. That (and human nature) will result in a race to the least common denominator as these type A bankers leave to do something more productive with their lives. Innovation will end. and IB will be seen as another dead end job (like being a government clerk) with a safe, 9-5, full benefits job.

Non profit doesn't necessarily mean low salary, it means non profit. There is still a lot of money out there, and by not screwing your customers you can still make a very decent living out of it. Also, investment bankers work that hard because they don't want to share their salary. Work 6 hours a day for 3 days a week and get half an investment banker salary is not so bad.

Thats the point. The banks dont operate in a capitalistic setup now. If they did, many would have been taken over by more capable people. We have socialized losses and privatized profits.

"socialized losses and privatized profits" that I agree, but that's not the only point. Even without the need of bailouts would the bank make insane profits. The point is they really are screwing their customers. And if the politicians are too corrupt to do anything about it, someone needs to compete with them.

People have the option to change their banks. We could go to credit unions if the banks are unreasonable. The big banks all seem to be in collusion though. Screw the people equally so they have nowhere to go. Credit unions only offer some alternative.

I like the idea. Go local with it. Talk to some small business owners, get on the phone and call people. Set up meetings in your communities. You could start a firm that uses money from investors in the community to fund new businesses. Do some research and come up with a plan, and dont stop till its done. If your willing to put forth the effort, you will get support.

Bad idea, but right instinct and direction. Many more people will come to your side when you are proactive (for “new” Business & Government solutions), instead of reactive (against “old” Business & Government solutions), which is why what we most immediately need is a comprehensive “new” strategy that implements all our various socioeconomic demands at the same time, regardless of party, and although I'm all in favor of taking down today's ineffective and inefficient Top 10% Management System of Business & Government, there's only one way to do it – by fighting bankers as bankers ourselves; that is, using a Focused Direct Democracy organized according to our current Occupations & Generations. Consequently, I have posted a 1-page Summary of the Strategically Weighted Policies, Organizational Operating Structures, and Tactical Investment Procedures necessary to do this at:

because we need 100,000 “support clicks” at AmericansElect.org to support a Presidential Candidate -- such as any given political opportunist you'd like to draft -- in support of the above bank-focused platform.

Most importantly, remember, as cited in the first link, that as Bank Owner-Voters in your 1 of 48 "new" Business Investment Groups (or "new" Congressional Committees) you become the "new" Congress replacing the "old" Congress according to your current Occupation & Generation, called a Focused Direct Democracy.

Therefore, any Candidate (or Leader) therein, regardless of party, is a straw man, a puppet; it's the STRATEGY – the sequence of steps – that the people organize themselves under, in Military Internet Formation of their Individual Purchasing & Group Investment Power, that's important. In this, sequence is key.

Why? Because there are Natural Social Laws – in mathematical sequence – that are just like Natural Physical Laws, such as the Law of Gravity. You must follow those Natural Social Laws or the result will be Injustice, War, etc.

The FIRST step in Natural Social Law is to CONTROL the Banks as Bank Owner-Voters. If you do not, you will inevitably be UNJUSTLY EXPLOITED by the Top 10% Management Group of Business & Government who have a Legitimate Profit Motive, just like you, to do so.

Consequently, you have no choice but to become Candidates (or Leaders) yourselves as Bank Owner-Voters according to your current Occupation & Generation.

So please JOIN the 2nd link so we can make our support clicks at AmericansElect.org when called for, at exactly the right time, by an e-mail from that group, in support of the above the bank-focused platform. If so, then you will see and feel how your goals can be accomplished within the above strategy as a “new” Candidate (or Leader) of your current Occupation & Generation.

non-profit investment bank doesn't make much sense to me.

you might like kiva.org though, check it out. it's micro-finance to poor entrepreneurs, so they can help grow themselves out of poverty.

what I am saying is that when a bank reports 6 billion dollars profit, they are screwing their customers. Create a bank that is cheap - at best non profit - you will steal customers from the expensive ones. The expensive banks will have to align with your prices, and make much less profit. And this will help cash and talent to return to the true economy.

why not used a credit union?
