I've been watching the OWS movement for several days now, and hope to see it continue to grow. I've also been reading the forums over the net and the exchange between all people from all ends of the political spectrum. To that end I have a radical idea.
We should strive to no longer use the terms 'Democrat', 'Republican', 'Liberal', 'Conservative', 'Left', 'Right'. These terms have been co-opted, they have been stolen, they have been abused and their meaning has been lost. These terms have been boiled down to simple labels so that you can easily dehumanize and denounce your fellow man. They have been used by TV talking heads to more easily keep score and keep everyone divided and against each other.
We should strive to no longer give these terms power. Instead, we should focus on a free exchange of ideas, debates and open forums. Our beliefs, our ideas, our hopes, our dreams, our wants, our desires cannot be easily summed up with one label. We need to no longer think in terms of 'left' or 'right', we need to think in terms of a united people but with many voices.
There are no more stupid people, there are only ignorant or ill informed people. To this end that is the value of intelligent debate. Work to educate each other, stop the hate, stop the name calling. If you have ideas that are different then debate, exchange information, educate each other. Come to a consensus, or agree to disagree. Be civil. Every idea should be considered and approached with an open mind until evidence and fact can sway your opinion otherwise.
One people, united, with many voices.
Excellent!
I posted a similar suggestion yesterday: http://occupywallst.org/forum/this-is-not-about-political-stripe-it-is-about-bas/#comment-37429
