just released by WSJ - thought you guys needed something new to protest:
WASHINGTON—The Obama administration has quietly drawn up plans to provide a key Persian Gulf ally with thousands of advanced "bunker-buster" bombs and other munitions, part of a stepped-up U.S. effort to build a regional coalition to counter Iran.
The proposed sale to the United Arab Emirates would vastly expand the existing capabilities of the country's air force to target fixed structures, which could include bunkers and tunnels—the kind of installations where Iran is believed to be developing weapons.
Uae can afford em. We cannot.
They are not peace keeping, they intend to blow Iran to hell because Israel said so! Who went to the Federal Reserve Bank asking to keep interest down? Who owns the Federal Reserve Bank? "Things that make you go, Hmmmmmm."
amen
the United Arab Emirates helped us in Libya .. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_military_intervention_in_Libya Obama prolonged detention and Preventive Detention http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZYVz8SYSw8
Thatll help us pay the bills
you dont think there's a better way to do that?
So we can't sell our allies our old weapons?
am I missing something? do we really think it's a good idea to sell anything like this to anyone? I wouldn't sell this crap to Canada, let alone anyone in THAT region...
Why isn't it a good idea? It's litterally a single purpose weapon with no tactical use besides bunker busting and the UAE has been a relativly "long term" ally in the region that has virtually no offensive forces to talk about.
And P.S., we don;t sell them to Canada, we give them to them
interesting re: CAD - I didn't know that...
nonetheless, I don't think it's appropriate we be in the business of selling munitions to anyone. It seems to me to be (1) counterproductive to any "peace keeping" intentions, and (2) easily escalating. today it's a bunker buster, tomorrow, who knows... (not the WSJ, that's for sure...)
preempting a response that this is allowing them to defend them selves hence peace keeping - if bunker-busters is what it takes to keep the peace, we should just use them, not sell them...
It's part of NATO, UK, France, Turkey, all of them can get them for free. They just have to pay the, I think yearly, maitnence fee for the alliance.
And you get two options. One, we can give/sell them weapons and let them deal with it on thier own. Or, we could get involved physically wiht our own troops in planes. Either way, some ones getting bombed, just depends on who dropps them
