If we would have hired as many teachers, firemen, and police officers as politicians have promised over the years maybe we wouldn't be in this situation. I am tired of hearing that mantra every time the politicians want money for something. How about we hire one teacher, policemen, or firemen for every congressional staffer, white house servant, white house adviser, and lobbyist that gets laid off..... Imagine the progress we would make in this country if the politicians actually had to read and write the laws they pass and not just have a staffer give them a briefing...
Well part of the problem, and only part, is that in order to have a truly productive economy, you need basic economic activity. We have become a service sector economy, and that can't be sustained unless the people buying and using the services are employed. In other words, our problems start with the simple fact that we don't really make, build, or create anything but ideas. And although ideas are great, and profitable for a few, they simply don't create large quantities of functional jobs for the general populace.

The first Right in FDR's Second Bill of Rights from 1944 was the one to a job. That one, and the other seven fit on one page very nicely and I hope someone could run a thousand copies and hand them out. Plan to do so myself in the DC setting.
Yeah, we need a shovel all right, 'cause we're getting jobbed.
800 billion-amount spent on "shovel ready jobs" that the president admitted were not shovel ready at all and the money is gone. 500 billion, the amount the president says will be needed to create "shovel ready jobs". He is lying and he is stealing our money.
It's not just the president, it was the president before him as well. Neither party truly represents the people anymore, if in fact they did, because we don't have the money to support their $100 million re-election campaigns....
