Pre-existing health conditions did not preclude me from buying a new health policy. My understanding is that prior to the ACA, Hippa laws would have required the insurance company to sell me a policy. The premium would be possibly too expensive to afford.
The advice I received was worth thousands of dollars. Most "out of pocket maximums" are in the $8,000 range. The policy I purchased has a higher monthly premium but the "out of pocket maximum" is only $800 instead of $8000.
Kidney transplants are very expensive and I am a lucky man. My hope is that every American can soon wake up every morning with the knowledge that they will be helped if they are sick.
