This dude I work with gets very emotional about this idea that the US is full of parasitic illegal aliens that are presented with the same chances for fulfillment of the American Dream as everyone else and ....so on and so on. This guy actually believes that if a person is poor, it's their own damn fault. He views himself as an excellent example of what a good American should be. This sort of self righteousness and passing of judgement on others seems to be all the rage. You can call it 'Occupy Wallstreet' or whatever you want to call it, but this thing is making the water ripple. I'm not so sure that it's about Wallstreet (whatever that is) however. Somehow, in a weird way, this comes down to Christian morality or whatever form it's taking these days. There is a fundamental difference between two groups in this country and thus far it's been something we don't include in polite conversation. We'll listen to the co-worker and maybe even pretend to agree in order to end the lecture. This is a difference of ideals. A difference of opinion on what America is and what America is supposed to become. There is Christian greed on one hand and Godless altruism on the other.

I owe my altruism to my Catholic education. Not that I am a practicing Catholic now, but I was given a wonderful foundation by the school & churches I attended as a kid.

I wonder sometimes about other Catholics & Christians who openly flaunt their religiosity but seem to have read the words of some other Jesus.

Really, even if someone believes charity shouldn't come from the government, that doesn't excuse mean-spirited victim-blaming and a failure to understand root causes.

There is just no excuse for an actual Christian to participate in the "ITS YOUR FAULT" "Geta Fuckin Job LOSER" hatefest.

I agree, even for non religious people; there are the materialistic fearful type who'll screw you over, and the spiritually awakened, loving type, who wouldn't screw you over
