Forum Post: Murkowski-Shell-ALEC

This content is user submitted and not an official statement

As you all know Shell is a member of ALEC. So is Murkowski.

Here is her statement that was released on the 1st.

Oh, and she is going to keep her main committee assignments.

Yep. If you read that link above then you must have seen Indian Affairs. Now, read this one

Here let me pull a little bit for you: The office of Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, has indicated that the senator is also concerned about the issue: “Senator Murkowski is extremely concerned about this inadvertent drafting error and she is in the process of resolving the issue through the amendment process,” Matthew Felling, a spokesperson for the senator, told Indian Country Today Media Network on April 25.

But Murkowski’s office has not explained her role in how and why the “drafting error” occurred.

Ya, you wouldn't be trying to screw the Native Americans out of their land, would you? I don't know how the hell that drafting error occurred either.

That kind of makes this: The New Bipartisan Plan to Drag Dark Money Into the Daylight even more hysterical than this

Alaska has always been wanted for exploitation - Oil minerals timber etc.

This Murkowski sounds like the perfect rino for the job. Unless of course Alaskans wake up and boot her Butt.

Yes and another window opens on the recent moves against tribal authority.

CorpoRat speak with forked tongue - wants money resources power control - willing to kill or do anything else to satisfy greed.

She was pretty wonderful thanking the coast guard for risking their lives saving an oil boat crew from waters that they should not have been in - Hey?

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Damn - she should be a poster child for sellout - and a poster child for the rinos - she sure do like playing both sides of a coin - the proper side after losing on the wrong side.

Makes a person feel so warm and fuzzy - shit their pumping CO into the room - so sleepy..................

I know that Lisa Murkowski is on top of one of my Alaskan daughter's shit-list,with Rep. Don Young being a close second.

Good link. It's amazing how quickly people throughout the world have gotten up to speed with this, and how closely linked to the Occupy movement it is. Their struggle is our struggle.

We must end the destruction of fossil fuel - the environment can not take the continuing pollution - even if it could be extracted cleanly ( which it can't ) - the atmosphere is being taken to a point of cataclysmic climate change.

BTW - middle of January here in the frozen north central USA ( wait a sec - NO - NOT Frozen - rained all last night )

[-] 1 points by frovikleka (2563) from Island Heights, NJ 11 years ago

I agree DK, but I fear that that not enough people will awaken soon enough. All we can do is keep pounding away on it, and hope there is still time.

Yep - spread the word/education and keep it in constant circulation - as we do not have a direct pipeline to the public at large - greater effort must be given and maintained.

[-] 1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

I would nominate her for poster child sell out. She does nothing but lie.

Part of the coalition for ( universal ) world wide death - not to worry they will not be excluding anyone - not even themselves - they are insane.

In compliment : PLEASE SHARE CIRCULATE FORWARD

Exxon is afraid, and here's why: our first ever national TV ad, Exxon Hates Your Children, is finally hitting the air, starting tonight. It's one of the very first ever truly crowdfunded, truly national political TV ads, with over 125,000 views online already - and Exxon knows that it's because people have had it with Big Oil, Gas & Coal's destruction of our children's future.

Now we need to prove their fears correct - we need to make the ad such a big hit that it sends a shockwave through our politics. Here's how you can make Exxon Hates Your Children a national gamechanger:

Let all your friends know they should watch it, on TV or online, by tweeting it out and sharing it on Facebook.

Sign our public petition to Congress and Exxon, telling them that the first thing thrown out of our budget ought to be corporate welfare for Big Oil.

Pledge to watch the ad, then let all your friends know to do the same.

Help us get Exxon Hates Your Children on the air where you live.

Thanks for all you do to make this movement real.

Sincerely,

John Sellers, The Other 98%

It's been raining here in Mn for the last day now. This is supposed to be the great frozen North Central USA. ( snow - not - rain ) - but not to worry we are slated to go back into the deep freeze in plenty of time for the rain to freeze and be UN-meltable by road chemicals. YAY looks like spring will see a bumper crop of potholes.

Thanks for the post - a perfect place to add a petition opportunity as well as an announcement for an anti-fossil fuel public ad.

Both Senator Lisa Murkowski R, and her dad the the former Governor of Alaska, who originally appointed her, are part of the slimey, corrupt political machine that has run Alaska for 50 years or more. Sarah Palin (as governor) in comparison to them looks like an angel, and in fact she did do some good things for the Alaskan people, including a better deal for them on oil royalties.

All politicians are given the chance to vote for good things like campaign finance reform as Lisa Murkowski did. This way they can go home to their constituents, and say "I tried to do the right thing." Typically party (both parties) leadership gets together behind closed doors with the lobbyists and 'count the votes' needed to pass a piece of legislation that is harmful to the corrupt status quo, but is good for the people. They then give the green light to a number of elected reps to vote for the 'people' knowing that they don't need their votes. That is why there is a contradiction between what Murkowski proposes in "Drag[ging] Dark Money Into The Daylight," and the corporate interests who are her benefactors. It's all part of the 'political theatre' that we love buying into, and that has rotted the democratic process.

BTW, Lisa Murkowski's oversight of "the... drafting error" may have been "inadvertant" as she does not seem to be the 'brightest bulb' out there. It took her four tries to pass the Alaskan Bar exam. In contrast, it took one of my daughters only once to pass that same exam. ;-)

ALEC. Drafting error? You just blank out over 40 tribes? Kind of like Oklahoma's Sharia law broke the treaties. Big oops.

[-] 2 points by frovikleka (2563) from Island Heights, NJ 11 years ago

Admittedly I am just getting up to speed with this, and obviously it was no drafting error. The threats to the native people in Alaska, ....to indigenous people throughout the world, and to our enviroment are being protestested. It is called the Idle No More campaign, and it is being compared to the Occupy movement. Today there will be protests all over the world, including in NYC at Washington Square Park.

There are many good links on this, but for starters, here's one.

Bridge to the ground.

http://occupywallst.org/forum/idlenomore-first-nations-rally-against-attacks-ind/

I'm amazed at how little attention this one got.

[-] 2 points by frovikleka (2563) from Island Heights, NJ 11 years ago

Thanks shooz. It slipped by me until a few days ago when an OTS friend of mine mentioned it. With the holidays and being in Alaska with family (returned jan 5th), I did not keep up on things so well. From the time of that post, the Idle No More movement has really gained momentum throughout the world because the threats not only would have detriemntal effects on indigenous people, but on all of us due to the enviromental impact, if these laws are passed.

Despite some of my criticism of this forum in the past, it has always been a wonderful place to network and to learn from each other. Thanks again.

Welcome back Odin...........:)

Idle No More is building all kinds of momentum.

Perhaps you can help me keep this "bridge to the ground" on center stage in spite of all the attempts to to bury it.

[-] 1 points by frovikleka (2563) from Island Heights, NJ 11 years ago

I will, Thanks. The awakening...the RISING... of the people is beautiful, isn't it?

Buried.

[-] 3 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

I tried to keep up and post what links I could find........:)

But you're correct, it was buried under the usual bullshit.

Idle No More is becoming increasingly effective.

[-] 1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Ok, I need to get on the ball here. So, I'll devote some time to it as soon as I can.

Thanks, give me a bit so that I can spend some quality time with this link and peruse others.

You got it. It does seem to be a concerted effort by the plutocrats to gain ground, doesn't it? I just heard about it a few days ago, and had thought about going to NY today, but will wait until Monday.

Not Relation to Sara Palin or Michell Bachman,

Weird news

On Friday, Murkowski joined Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) in offering for new plan to secretive political groups and their dark-money donors. In a Washington Post op-ed, Murkowski and Wyden write, "At minimum, the American people deserve to know before they cast their ballots who is behind massive spending, who is funding people and organizations, and what their agendas are." More than $400 million in dark money was spent during the 2012 elections, mostly by conservative organizations—a fourfold increase from 2008. Leading dark-money groups included Karl Rove's Crossroads GPS, the US Chamber of Commerce, Americans for Prosperity, and Americans for Tax Reform, the anti-tax outfit run by Grover Norquist.

The Murkowski-Wyden plan—you can read a wonky outline of it here (PDF)—would try to force politically-active nonprofits, big business trade groups, labor unions, and shell corporations to reveal the true source of their funds. In spirit, it's not all that different from the DISCLOSE Act of 2012.
