I would like to suggest that the NYC OWS group seriously consider moving to the Winter Garden Atrium in the World Financial Center 2 blocks from its current location.
It's a huge glass-vaulted pavilion 10 stories high, one vast open area filled with palm trees.
It would provide warmth and shelter for the winter months, and more space than Zuccotti Park. It is also owned by the same company that owns Zuccotti.
As a symbol of "Wall Street", it would be just as effective, since the World Financial Center is filled with firms like American Express, Merrill Lynch, Deloitte & Touche, Infinium Capital Management, etc.
I imagine a kind of "flash mob" takeover, around 5pm when everyone is swarming around there anyway leaving work. Suddenly, hundreds of people plop down on the floor, and boom, it is occupied...

there's a risk of losing ground
Do you have enough people to move half over there. I highly recommend a flash mob as i have been for months even before the OWS. You could even first do a diversion in different section of town. Be creative, put smelly grease on your bodies so the police can't easily grab you. Throw out marbles. Dress as mimes and do skits. Makes signs saying, "Can I have a little more, SIr" while dressed in rags like Oliver Twist. March down to this area led by a trio of American patirots: drummer, fife, and flag holder, two or three abreast, with a rad drum corps behind, followed by your choir, then dancers. Do a cry-in. Dress as banksters and steal candy from the actors dressed as kids. Have you planned an action for Halloween? How about visiting local banks dressed as poor slobs, begging and pan-handling outside about 100 banks or more.
can we save the flashmobs for Glee? Some adults are part of this movement too.
All flashmobs I have seen are by adults. And, you don't get it. It's a tactic and you want media coverage. If it is clever and creative, it gets the moronic news people's attention. You act like this is all very serious. There is massive evidence of a really carnival atmosphere and, that may be okay. You can have fun and be serious too, they are not mutually exclusive. And if you really want to get serious, you can actually develop an organization. But it appears no one is that serious yet although, who knows what is going on behind the scenes? If you are truly one of the serious ones, let me know what you are doing and how much time you are giving to really serious planning. I would be interested to know. Elsewise, you end up just being another fatuous complainer with too much time on your hands and nothing constructive to do. Save the criticism for the real bastards. I suggest you organize your own action. Nothing like real experience to gain enlightenment.
...and it is a "privately owned public space" just like Zucotti is.

I hope so. It would sure be exciting to see the police throwing you out.
